You know . . before the "I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars" was put into play

I greatly enjoy Reasonable Doubt but I never considered anything in it to be lyrically impressive. So I'm wondering what examples come to mind when you think of impressive lyrics from Jay and was he more noted for his lyrical ability or the content of work

I agree. While clever, Jay z never blew me away with any rhymes. His word play was never anything that I felt was special. I think him being a superior lyricist is something that he and his fans put out there just like when he proclaimed Reasonable Doubt being a certified classic.

welcome to the twilight zone

Can I live is his lyrical masterpiece IMO.

But I agree. He's said shyt that made me chuckle, but I've never been :wow: by Jay's lyrics.

he's not profoundly dope to me like a Scarface/Pac.....He's more "fun"/superficially dope.

Wordplay...double/triple meanings and all that shyt lost it's luster around the time I was a Jr in high school.

I could see how a juvenile mind could think it's the dopest shyt ever, tho:ehh:

It's in the essence of the MC.

Jay never hit me in a deep spot nh.

Just impressive to my ears.I get a chuckle...sometimes a line will even stick around in my head for a day or two, if it's catchy.

I remember when this shyt

I creep up when the beef heats up, caught him with his feet up
And shoes off, bout to snooze off

was stuck in my head for a few days.Don't know why, but thinking of the visual had me:mjlol:

but it was like empty calories. That's how most of Jay's music is to me.

This is just hate

A lot of us not impressed by jays dikkridin tactics his attention hoin or his sneaky ways

But to ask if the man is not a top notch lyricist ? Op must not have listened to his catalog

Jay is a shallow materialistic muthafukka, but he can get deep whenever he wants to, can create concept songs, do story tellin n come up with wordplay

So id suggest op to
Go listen to jays first 3-4 albums n come up with his own judgement before startin threads just cuz a thought crossed his mind

Jay wasnt considered in that great class of lyricist til probaly his retirement.

He was at his best and most enjoyed by the masses before he started feelin himself with the flow....when he was just a lyrical nikka/game spitter/real shyt sayer....people that i knew didnt fukk with him because they love lyrics, like people i know who fukk with a Nas or Kendrick...that wasnt Jays primary appeal to the majority of rap fans imo.
