The buds have had All these successful regular seasons in the last decade, but they only won two playoff series in the first round

It wears on you

Matthews/marner got to go by any means necessary. They have proven time and time again that they can’t raise their game in the playoffs. They have youth, talent and skill on their side but not attitude , grit, will and desire to win. They just can’t take over playoff games and lead their team to victory. They can’t take charge and dominate offensively on the ice. They can’t take a team on their backs and get them to glory. The Buds will never win with these players as main characters. They’re robins, not Batman.

Marner is an unrestricted free agent this summer. His massive contract will expire in July. But Matthews signed a five year-contract worth 53 millions 2 summers ago. He makes 13.5 millions a year.( huge cap hit when you consider that all nhl teams have to operate within a hard salary cap)

Let unrestricted free agent Tavares walk this summer. Nothing against him but he’s getting older and we need to move on and turn the page from him

And we have too much deadweight in the bottom two lines on offense. We get next to no offensive production from most of these players domi and pacioretty( who’s old, injury-prone, and past his prime anyway)
Jarnkrok, Laughton, Kampf, Mcmann are bums lol. Our supposed offensive depth is overrated

All our players on defense except Morgan rielly (we have to move his expensive long term contract elsewhere ) can stay with the team

Our goaltending Duo ( woll/stolarz) can stay here for now.

On offense, knies and nylander can stay for now. As sad as it looks, William Nylander is probably the best playoff performer among the big three amigos( auston Matthews, Mitch marner, Willy nylander) basically the best of a sorry bunch, it aint much.

And GM Brad TreIiving must sign restricted free agent Matthew Knies asap before July 1. He’s a keeper because Knies is the only skilled forward on this team with a physical power forward game. He’s mentally and physically built for the playoffs too. Just love his competitive attitude and big game mentality @CJ unlike some players, he gets it.

Connor McDavid will be an unrestricted free agent In the summer of 2026. My hopes rest on the leafs signing him and bringing him back home to the blue and white. 2026-27 might be a special season in Maple Leaf history. Maybe he will be the chosen one who will finally lead Toronto to championship glory for the first time since 1967? One calendar year and one full nhl season away from the impossible dream. @Patrick Kane

Nothing wrong with this cover, they were the most entertaining team around at their peak.

Would you feel better if I said these Leafs are like the Price/Daugherty/Nance Cavs?
The Matthew’s/marner/nylander/rielly leafs are much more like the Embiid/Simmons/Harden/Harris Sixers. Sixers are great un the regular season with great talent on their roster but skyways disappoint in the playoffs.

At least that early 90s Cavs core of price, Daugherty and nance reached the EC finals in 1992. The sixers and the leafs never made the eastern conference final

Matthews is a passive playoff choker just like embiid

Matthew Knies is our Tyrese Maxey

The current Leafs are like the 90's Ewing Knicks. They only made the Finals because Jordan was "retired"
It's worse. More like the cowboys since the glory days.

The Toronto Maple Leafs since the lockout:

2006: missed playoffs
2007: missed playoffs
2008: missed playoffs
2009: missed playoffs
2010: missed playoffs
2011: missed playoffs
2012: missed playoffs
2013: lost in R1
2014: missed playoffs
2015: missed playoffs
2016 missed playoffs
2017: lost in R1
2018: lost in R1
2019: lost in R1
2020: lost in qualifying round
2021: blew a 3-1 series lead
2022: lost in R1
2023: lost in R2
2024: lost in R1
2025: blew a 2-0 series lead

Leafs made the ECF in 2003 or 2004 and lost to the Hurricanes..... only reason i remember is cause I worked there and remember the Canes lifting the ECF trophy in Game 7 at the ACC..

They made the WCF in back to back years 1993 and 1994..( Gilmour, clark, Potvin, etc)

Yes they were in the west during that time, can you believe it.

For realignment reasons because of league expansion( the nhl grew bigger with new teams between 1998 and 2001 )They moved out to the eastern conference in 1998

They then made the ECF in 1999 and 2002.( sundin, Curtis Joseph, Roberts, mogilny, Tucker, McCabe etc era)

you’re talking of 2002, that year they lost in six games to the hurricanes, on home ice at the air Canada center ( ACC) then now the scotiabank arena. In 2003 they lost in 7 to the Philly flyers in round 1 then the following year (2004) they lost again to Philly in round 2 but. 6 games this time.

Leafs fans would love to at least have the Sundin and Mogilny years back...
These leafs squads were older, less talented and more injury prone than these current leafs teams but they scored as much goals as them anyway , and they were much more likeable, experienced, grittier, physical, determined and proud. They were much more successful in the playoffs. They never choked or fell short of expectations. They did their best as they often overachieved while these current/modern leafs often underachieved
