@The Dankster that was a great post with a lot facts backing up your claims.
But if I can nitpick, even though Magic may have had an easy road to the finals here and there... he still had to face the Bird-Parish-McHale Celtics in 3 of those finals. Plus the Moses-Erving Sixers. Plus the Bad Boy Pistons.
He has played and BEAT truly great teams in the finals.
I partially agree with you, which is why I have him #4. But Lebron obviously has beaten great teams in the Finals too. I'm just pointing out that one of the few arguments that people use to degrade Lebron, Magic doesn't even have that over him.
And to nitpick more.....
Magic never beat the Moses-Erving Sixers. He got swept by them in a series where none of the games was closer than 6. Magic averaged 19-8-13 on just 40% shooting and let Toney/Cheeks go off for 22-2-6 on 42% shooting and 15-2-6 on 55% shooting. With Erving at the SF, there was literally nowhere to hide Magic in that series.
Magic's teams did beat the Sixers in the Finals twice, but that was before they got Moses when it would be pretty hard to call them a "great" team.
Magic's teams beat the Celtics twice (after choking badly the first time around), but I'd argue the '85-'87 Lakers were even more stacked than the Celtics were.
Magic's team managed to beat the Bad Boy Pistons in 7 in '88 when Rodman/Dumars really hadn't hit their prime yet, then got swept by them the next year when both of them had their breakout years.
Lebron never carried any team
this shyt again
Wtf is wrong witchu nikkas?
"Neva carried a team"..."I just laff "...
You state dis silly ass shyt afta breh dropped back to back 41 point games, a triple double in game 7....on da road...in da Finals...against a 73-9 team... being da only person in NBA history to lead bof teams in all statistical categories in a playoff series... and came back from a 3-1 deficit to win his team's first NBA championship.
nikka.
When Jordan averaged 41ppg 8rpg 7ast per game in the finals that was IMO carrying a team. You guys mention Lebron scoring 41 twice in the finals well MJ averaged that.. I'm not impressed
I said that Magic never had to carry a team
TO THE DEGREE that Lebron did. Lebron has always been the most important passer, scorer, and defender on every one of his championship teams. Magic never had to carry the scoring or the defense to the degree that Lebron did. That's non-negotiable.
No one ever "fully" carries a team, because basketball is a team sport. But Lebron's had to do more of it over his career than Magic has.
Lebron gets unanimous Finals MVP in every championship, becomes the first guy ever to lead both teams in points-rebounds-assists-blocks-steals just a year after becoming the first guy to lead both teams in points-rebounds-assists, and you claim that he's never carried anyone.
And don't forget differences in era and pace when making these comparisons. Pace has started to pick back up again, but the pace in 1991-1993 was still meaningfully higher than in ANY year since then. When Jordan was averaging 41/game, he had another guy on his team averaging 20+ and four guys in double figures, while the other team had four different guys averaging 15+ a game. The LOSING team in that series scored 107/game, and only once did the losing team score less than 98 in any game.
Compare that to, say, 2013, where both teams only averaged 97/game, or even 2016 where they only averaged 100/game. You basically have to take 10% off of every stat from the early 1990s just to start to make a normal comparison.
Why is LeBron even on this list?
I choose magic btw.
Lebron's moving up in the rankings in part because Lebron haters are too stupid to understand the voting system.
