Torn ACLs and MCLs across the nation. Is FIELD TURF to blame?

So glad they got rid of astroturf... who's bright idea was that? And we have noticed a lot more injuries in the past few years...I think it's a combo of everything y'all have mentioned.

it made sense from an economic standpoint.

no actual need for irrigation, re-sod, or real upkeep, when it snows.. just sweep the shyt off.... probably costs less than a grass field too.

the same people who probably thought asbestos was safe, thought astro-turf was a good idea too.

playing on turf was fun, til you try to break up a pass running at full speed, hit the ground, bounce, and then continue to slide and the turf burns thru your jersey and skin.

All I know is it was refreshing to watch that Northwestern/Ohio St game being played on grass that long.

Personally, with the amount of money generated by college and pro football, there's no reason to not be able to keep the natural grass surface wel maintained.

certain blends and strains of grass just don't maintain well once late october-early november hit. it's the re-sodding that takes weeks to happen. a field that hasn't fully settled after the re-sod is more dangerous than a shyt awful field that hasn't been upkept.

my HS, purposely lets the bermuda somewhat die, and repaints the field with black paint.... it looks hard as fukk with a black/gold combo.

nikkas would rather play on field turf than shytty grass like half the teams in the league have. I can count on one hand teams who have a natural grass field that's always on point rather than that trash the Redskins, Eagles, Steelers, 49ers play on.

There aren't actually that many teams playing on natural grass in the NFL. it's mostly field turf.

Lincoln Financial,Mile High,Lambeau use hybrids composed of natural grass and monofilaments, that's probably the best of both worlds

Qualcomm,Arrowhead,Reliant,Sun Life,B of A all have great looking fields year round.

FedEx is not as awful as Soldier Field as far as surface, but they've been saying that shyt is awful for years before what happen to RG3

if you're playing in a dome, there is NO reason to not have natural grass or a hybrid grass surface.

you literally have the fukking best conditions to grow grass, yet you don't have it?

anyone whos played soccer on artificial pitch knows how bad that shyt is.

I think some injury-prone european soccer players sit out games on artificial pitches

You saying the metrodome can have a natural surface?:what:
are you fukking stupid? it's indoors.... you can grow grass indoors breh.

outside of the fact it had a roof collapse, and houses/housed multiple teams, playing different sports.... yes it can.

if you're building venues indoors to offset the weather conditions, why the fukk couldn't you have a natural surface?

Why hasnt a team tried it yet then?

And what kind of artificial lighting would be needed for a huge football field.

The Cardinals have an indoor stadium with the retractable roof, they just roll the field in. Seems cool but I don't see the big benefit. And it'd be hard for a team to have this set up after the stadium is already built.

Glendale is home to all types of events, and it makes it THAT much easier to switch surfaces wether it's a car show, rodeo, concert, monster truck rally, job fair etc.

instead of having lay down a surface over the field, just roll the field out...and you have a surface already....and work to convert back to a football field.

with those fields they used to roll out at domed stadiums, the seams where the giant rolls of turf joined were always problematic for players
