The commercial version of Drake’s So Far Gone without the illegal instrumentals was a 7 song EP and it went Gold. :yeshrug:

The rest of the world look to the US (the FBAs) on what’s cool.

:mjlol:

bit delusional that. which countries have you been to to see that breh? there's a reason sinners was hardly released outside of the US. HINT: not because it's too cool for them.

i'm not FBA and I'm not american and I don't do that.

and (for example) when I traveled across eastern europe most of the countries have little discernible trace of western culture/music and they don't want it. they think their own stuff is cool. bulgaria (sofia) had some US themed jazz bars.

i got sick to death of the europop crap in romania discos. shyt almost drove me mad.

other massive zones like india have little to none. the caribbean has its own culture, headed by jamaica and trinidad. most of those latino places are focused on their own music and styles.

maybe you mean some parts of western europe and western africa. if so, i agree. but even there is tends to be people from certain parts of society. saying the even the UK has it's own style of pop and rap.

this is the coolest band in history and their main influences are caribbean and african.

show me anything of this size in brazil for US r&b/rap.

ANYTHING ..

or romania

I respectfully do not believe this disproves my point. When you’re trying to reach a certain level of stardom, how you’re perceived in the US influences the rest of the world. I even said that in the post you didn’t fully quote, she’ll still be successful but not at the level her label aspired to be.

This ship has sailed my bro it’s not the 90’s anymore

But by the same token it look like the labels wanted a new Rhianna but it’s not the 00’s anymore

A south african making nigerian music for an American audience is wild work

This is the illusion my bro,

The US is the biggest english speaking music market. Labels want to market their acts to sell in America, not the rest of the world. If the labels want to push an artiste internationally they put money behind them.

Nobody is going out of their to find out what Americans think is cool.

analogous:

in films these days china helps films become global hits by virtue of their spending power but the masses do not care about chinese opinion on films. they just see that it's a big film, so go and watch it. or because of the chinese market the budget could include better FX. totally divorced from the fact that chinese opinions helped make it massive / give it a bigger budget. america plays a similar financial role.

I respectfully do not believe this disproves my point.

there is no need to argue. just show me the proof.

just show me the concerts of the size that i showed you in those countries with R&B.

When you’re trying to reach a certain level of stardom, how you’re perceived in the US influences the rest of the world.

nope. money does. when you have star level money you gain influence as someone famous. not as a proxy of america or with acclaim in america being a precondition.

the entire football (soccer) industry is instructive here. no one cares what america thinks about soccer. yet there are global stars who are amongst the biggest on earth. ronaldo, messi, beckham, pele, maradona etc etc. these then are introduced to america (no help from america reqd).

point being that america's influence is not cultural domination but rather (with some types of fame) financial domination which helps the stars make their leg up.

likewise in the opposite direction large swathes of american music are of no interest to large parts of the world. and then looking at genres its even worse, ,country music for example.

point being india, brazil, china etc all have their own big stars .. they are just not as rich and/or as pushed in the anglo world.
