Jokes aside, as an individual Umar has done a lot to educate Black people on the realities of White Supremacy. You don’t see the Boule types openly challenging and calling out White Supremacy. Many weren’t even using the term White Supremacy in the open until saying it became mainstream under Trump. While education is great, in and of itself focusing solely on education is still funneling Black people into an underclass with ‘good jobs’ working for the Man. They don’t call out and challenge the system because the Boule themselves are heavily dependent on it. And in many cases, they do the bidding of White Supremacy by telling Black people to vote blue no matter what and seek White acceptance.

Everything he said is true, I’m Greek by fraternity and even I understood that getting handouts is easy when white power systems knows you will play ball. Sad as it is, I also know that it’s the fastest path to financial freedom if you come from the slums. I also agree that the past generation failed us. They gave up the fight that our grandparents took up. Lastly the focus should be on kids because anybody black past age 15 is already brainwashed even if they are pro black. They already have the indoctrination that white power is the only power available, no matter if they dislike it or not. Don’t send your kids to public school and teach them about starting businesses and learning trades early on.

Nah. Let me stop.

I have seen her a few times in person. She could have passed back and the day -- and even now.

She's definitely Black elite.

Exactly, the Boule types with some financial resources don’t take risks to build industries. Can you imagine a Boule type graduating from Princeton then leaving their ‘good job’ earning hundreds of thousands working at a hedge fund in 1994 to move across country and sell books online (Bezos)? Or a Boule type with an engineering background living on $1 a day in their 20s and showering at YMCA while building a business (Elon Musk)? While other groups bankroll their children’s startups, Boule types shame them for not getting degrees and jobs. Those types of short term sacrifices and risk taking are needed by Black ppl with the most resources to elevate the race

An interesting debate Umar and LOG were having was the definition of the black elites.

Umar's definition was a bit broader and I actually agree.

LOG was trying to say that his book was not about the black elite but the black upper class, which he had trouble or at least didn't have time to articulate the difference.

What I think he was trying to say is there are all types of elites.

Academic elites.
Political elites.
Business elites.
Entertainment elites.

But just because you're an elite, it doesn't mean that you're upper class.

Umar shot back and said what about Oprah Winfrey?

Well, Oprah Winfrey is an elite and she's upper class....but she's upper class in a general American sense but not black upper class.

Being upper class doesn't just mean having money or being rich. It means having a set pattern of behaviors, norms, values, taste, etc.

In the opening stanzas of his book, LOG illustrates that point.

Bryant Gumbel is, but Bill Cosby isn’t. Lena Horne is, but Whitney Houston isn’t. Andrew Young is, but Jesse Jackson isn’t. And neither is Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Clarence Thomas, or Quincy Jones. And, even though both of them try extremely hard, neither Diana Ross nor Robin Givens will ever be.

All of these folks are black elites. But they are not all black upper class.

They were essentially debating two different concepts.

Ok, and?
You have a guy in another thread that just ate gorilla glue because he didn't believe gorilla glue worked. You think that's an interesting life and personality?

Someone's socioeconomic status does not determine their character or intelligence. Plenty of rich fools doing dumb shyt on a daily.

Literally parroting it line for line word for word.

No, he doesn't. He just spouts nonsense with manufactured authority and no one bothers to question it. I'll give you an example: In the first Hidden Colors dude said the creators of ninja were Black.

Arguing with him is like arguing with someone who believes the Earth is flat and the pyramids are over 10,000 years old.

Umar had points. :ehh:

This is the woman that they were debating about.
Umar loses points for not walking back the claim about her being/identifying as white. Even after Lawrence detailed who her father and grandfather were.
Instead, in TLR fashion he juelzes and copped pleas.
He threw Roland Martin under the bus as part of his plea copping, but
Roland did in fact say that Vernon Jordan was married to a white woman @5 minute mark

I was actually going to look this up.
I remember this interview but didn't remember that part.
Roland should have known better.

But I took my cues from you. :dwillhuh:

You've just generalized a whole group based off of their socio-economic status.

:hula:

Not all upper class people conform to their culture and society. I'm generalizing the elite culture and attitudes not necessarily the individuals.

Roland should have known better.

He was based out of Chicago for part of his career. He definitely knows who's who in that city and absolutely should know better.

Dudes attempting to randomly throw others under the bus is always funny though.
