There's nothing to really talk about. Hawaii's Hip Hop scene is pretty dead. At one point my homie was trying to put together a monthly show for emcees and producers to come through to keep the scene going. Kind of like an open mic/community project, but COVID killed that shyt. There's a bunch of scattered rappers and producers doing their own thing, but there's no community. Outside of a couple guys, pretty much everyone out here is wack to me.Not trying to be funny...but you should make a thread about Hawaiian Hip-Hop and the culture. That shyt would be dope AF. I spent a week out there and my perception on Hawaii was DEAD WRONG prior. They showed mad love. Kept it gutter 2. I got escorted to a club in the cut with no "howlies" and had a great time. Partied hard on some terrible favors but cats showed mad love. The ladies were cool 2 ended up sliding with some dark skinned asian looking jawn![]()

They probably both are. Luke just heard "Put on" but wasn't really paying attention. Joe basically saying he got them to sign him, not that he discovered him.
This is from 1996 and STILL a hit in clubs in the south
Man, Scarred was a BIG hit down south. That's when most heard of Trick. Why Joe exaggerating and lying like this?![]()
Around the time Trick got signed, Southern acts weren't in demand like that....especially acts from Mia. ATL blew out of Atl, West Coast came out of LA and everyone else came through NY. That's why they stayed independent...selling out of the trunk. And if that was the case, there should've never been the opportunity for Fat Joe to have to convince anyone...or get a demo or tape to have to take to any label. They would've already had it. Their music was only seen a regional, so it would've taken a co-sign from a NY artist or someone very connected to go to a major.Saw Joes response and what’s annoying is he might’ve mentioned Trick and brought attention about Trick to majors (doubt it was an actual demo) but that doesn’t mean that him and only him was the sole reason Trick got signed which is what he making it seem. Let’s be clear around that time every label was trying to sign acts from the South due to how many records we were selling independently through Southwest Wholesale. Trick was moving a lot of records independently so I’m sure the word of “Fat Joe” at the time held little to no weight with signing Trick. I have issue with him acting like it was.
