Scarred wasn't a national hit? That shyt was big on Hawaii radio, and nothing makes it out here.
One of my favorite songs as a kid.

Not trying to be funny...but you should make a thread about Hawaiian Hip-Hop and the culture. That shyt would be dope AF. I spent a week out there and my perception on Hawaii was DEAD WRONG prior. They showed mad love. Kept it gutter 2. I got escorted to a club in the cut with no "howlies" and had a great time. Partied hard on some terrible favors but cats showed mad love. The ladies were cool 2 ended up sliding with some dark skinned asian looking jawn :ahh:

There's nothing to really talk about. Hawaii's Hip Hop scene is pretty dead. At one point my homie was trying to put together a monthly show for emcees and producers to come through to keep the scene going. Kind of like an open mic/community project, but COVID killed that shyt. There's a bunch of scattered rappers and producers doing their own thing, but there's no community. Outside of a couple guys, pretty much everyone out here is wack to me.

The culture out here is awesome, though. I couldn't live anywhere else. It's just super expensive.

Saw Joes response and what’s annoying is he might’ve mentioned Trick and brought attention about Trick to majors (doubt it was an actual demo) but that doesn’t mean that him and only him was the sole reason Trick got signed which is what he making it seem. Let’s be clear around that time every label was trying to sign acts from the South due to how many records we were selling independently through Southwest Wholesale. Trick was moving a lot of records independently so I’m sure the word of “Fat Joe” at the time held little to no weight with signing Trick. I have issue with him acting like it was.

Around the time Trick got signed, Southern acts weren't in demand like that....especially acts from Mia. ATL blew out of Atl, West Coast came out of LA and everyone else came through NY. That's why they stayed independent...selling out of the trunk. And if that was the case, there should've never been the opportunity for Fat Joe to have to convince anyone...or get a demo or tape to have to take to any label. They would've already had it. Their music was only seen a regional, so it would've taken a co-sign from a NY artist or someone very connected to go to a major.

You must have not saw the actual context of the discussion and assumed thru the clip fat Joe meant it the way you saying. He was talking how he’s done favors for people without asking for anything in return. He didn’t make it seem at all like it was only him. He said he helped people get deals. All facts. Period.

Ummm Luke didn't need anyone's cosign back then.

Trick blew up from Scarred and his follow up album. Even if Joe put in a good word...that was him being a vulture. Nann would've blew up regardless because hip hop was shifting to the South. Remember this was around the time Juve and Master P were red hot.

Trick didn't need a Joe cosign. He would've had the same career regardless because the industry was looking for southern acts. If anything those eastcoast guys were leeching off southern artists to reach a new audience (Jay z and Ha).
