Unpopular opinion: Alfredo 2 is more fun to listen to than Let God Sort Em Out

Alfredo 2 was cool...beats are solid raps are solid...theres nothing fundamentally bad per say but its not great and I think the issue is that Al needs to start diversifing his beats on these collab albums because the sound has gotten monotonous.

More “Lemon Pepper Steppers” and “Gold Feet” type beats more experimentation.. More tempos more sounds …. Because right now he's getting to that if you heard one Al beat you heard them all status.… which is a shame because he's too good of a producer for that...

If you want to do album comparisons.…forget LGSEO.… compare the Freddie projects produced by AL to the ones Prodcued by Madlib and I think you'll get a much wider range of musicality and risk taking vs the alchemist projects even tho they both have similar distinctions when it comes to production styles... Madlib does what Al and Freddy try to do just more creatively .… is there a song he and Al have done better than Palmolive…and that's AL’s signature style

With LGSEO, when you listen to “Birds don't sing” “Chains and Whips” “So be it” “EBITDA” you're getting a totally different soundscape on each track.…its a more interesting listen its a less boring rehashed sounding album.… I think Fred and Al would benefit from adding more features on their albums as well to bring some life and different lyrical content as well as energy to some of their records…. Fred is a great rapper but can suffer from what I call “run on sentence rhymes” where the shyt just sounds like one long ass rambling story because his flow can get stagnant he doesn't really do a lot of punchlines to emphasize his bars and the shyt can sound like he's just talking to talk

Ultimately both Clipse and Fred dropped solid projects but I think the range of Pharrell vs Al is really exposed on each of these projects
I respect how well thought out and detailed this response is. After some thinking, I do agree with some of your points.

Both are great and have way different sounds but Clipse album got more entertaining rapping and beats overall. Alfredo 2 is great but like most Alc produced albums you have to be in the mood for the slower laid back sound.

Like I'm an AL stan just like most people with good taste are... But the shyt is confusing to me like...every since he started doing these collab albums with more “well known” artist I feel like either he or the artist box him into the “real hiphop” sound and that results in this ambient music ass shyt that sounds like something you'd hear on an elevator.… its like he's been typecasted to only one sound when he’s too dope to be put in that box.… he was always avant garde when he was in his early prime...going left when all the other producers were doing glossy 106 and park music... But its like his shyt has stagnated now and people are doing his style better than him…with the same artist he works with

Like where has HNIC 2 AL gone

THIS is that Alchemist shyt I need

That unorthodox shyt

Where is Cookbook alchemist at? That grimey atmospheric sounding shyt that he perfected.

Like this nikka used to make shyt that sounded spooky.…shyt that played in lucifers layer.… now its like all we get is the “I gave my life to god” Al :russ:

The last time I heard him get wild like this was maybe on that Red Death track but W$G is musicophile who knows that back catalog and could get him in that zone...but we need more of it.

With all due respect, because I love this era of Alchemist...if he was making beats like this in 2025, the general public would criticize it for sounding dated. 100% full stop. You might still prefer it, but it just is what it is.

Modern boom bap has changed from this to more of what it sounds like now. For better or worse.

Times change bro. Boldy James probably gets the most diverse plate of Alc beats, and some are more in this lane. He's said the stuff he would've given to Prodigy usually is stuff he saves for Boldy these days.

Here's an even hotter take, Alchemist's sh*t sounds so redundant that it's starting to sound like elevator music. He'll have a few beats here and there that give it some flavor and make you go :ohhh: but for the most part, i ain't tryna go albums of him where his beats force you to do the "delay talk" flow that the bpm makes you do. Pharraell's production on LGSEO sound so refreshing, live af and it forces pusha and malice to find out other pockets, plus you don't know what to expect on the next song on that album. I like soulful beats as much as the next person but the BPM being slower is just something that should be sprinkle in between, not necessarily make it the whole sound of the album. And Pharraell did a lil bit of sampling as well, like Whips and Chains has that herb albert bassline sample the same one Biggie had on Hypnotize. Yall are afraid to say that the Clipse album sounds refreshing and has replay value. I can only take so much of alchemist, there was a point his bpm was on point but now like someone said, in today's time once you heard an alchemist production, you've mostly heard em all. It doesn't help that the artist he has on his beats like Boldy and Larry are boring af.

I’ll just repeat what I said in another thread. Freddie has the better album but the Clipse have the better song…particularly “Let God Sort’em Out.” Pharrell needs to get someone in there to do his drums because some of them shyts don’t knock like they should. I copped both cause I’m a fan. My gripes are just nitpicking

Other day I ran through Alfredo 2 once and decided to play that clipse joint. The production felt so jarring and try hard. I got 2 tracks in and heard John legend singing and turned it off. Ran though Alfredo 2 a second time :manny:

John Legend joint was gay af :mjlol:
The song where they are rapping about their parents deaths???
Do y'all have bad relationships with your parents? That song was one of the highlights of the album for me.
