i dunno. its one of his criticisms, but he's got alot of grey in there also. rory & the bird acted like they knew what he was talking about, ebro gave it the industry laugh off when he knew he didnt have enough time to peel the layers of joe's runaround talk back and rosenberg straight up said he didnt understand wtf joe was saying. that hour or so on his podcast gave us a glimpse of his "concerns," but it was surrounded by too much rambling. you talkin about art, meek, jay, r&b, napster, popularity---all or some of the above. give me a statement of work and a summary, my dude. dont be vague when you "cant be blackballed."

So Drake is on the level of stardom as Jay and Eminem right?. Marshall wasn't cut out to be in the public eye. Joe believes that. Jay enjoys being in the public eye and Joe thinks he's done hip-hop a disservice in a way as the flag bearer of hip-hip.

Joe as an old head is concerned with the direction of hip-hop. He thinks nikkas gonna be done after all this streaming shyt. He wants more out of Drake because if Drake can do what he wants to do then he can get other nikkas on.

But here's where Joe's argument falls apart. Drake has never done or said anything that isn't on Views. Drake has always been about little relationship bullshyt. Drake isn't Pac, he's not trying to be a revolutionary and never will be.

He isn't saying Drake needs to be revolutionary just be great.

I've never been a big fan of either of these dudes but I appreciate Buddens opinion on the art. He doesn't give a fukk about Drake's status or marketability, this was strictly about music...which is insane to me, cuz Drake from day one has only been about status and marketability IMO

Drake allowing someone in the industry to get him off his game, and he's showing in Views that he's distracted/vulnerable. Joe is worried that Drake will allow this to become a downward trend when he has the ability to reach much higher than he already is. He knows that Drake is aware of this because he's very meticulous and calculated and the fact that he allowed Views to come out the way that he did is alarming. The reason Joe is getting excited/angry about this is 1) he's a HUGE Drake fan, 2) he feels like a father to Drake as a musician and that he has a responsibility as a man like he has in his real-life fatherhood of Trey, and 3) he loves music that much and wants to see it be great.

Budden is crazy though so it's very hard for him to articulate his thoughts like this

He can love Jay and still acknowledge that he has a habit of standing on nikkas necks at opportune times, himself included.

And I understand him about his perspective changing, but this the same nikka that went in on Meth for supposedly using a writing pool...now he LOVESSSSSSS Drake and is sounding like he's worried about him because Jay is about to knock the domino over on his career as he exits the game forreal.
