What does sound uninspired mean? Drake sounds like he always sounds
Budden sounds like he always sounds when he makes music
You get my point

Peaked at what?Gonna listen to the podcast and response now, but looking at Joe's IG post of the clip, I'm sure he feels like i do. I agree with Joe that Drake peaked on Take Care, and hasn't had the desire to surpass that since because even he knows that whatever he does is gold anyway.
Joe doesn't know what he's talking about. Look at how interest Drake'so album generated. It would be crazy if all the biggest names (remember, Tidal also went for Swift and Drake) just said fukk it and rolled with it. Drake took the 17 million dollar check instead (Hov was offered a large amount too but said no) and that plus Drake'so Rolling Stone interview is their beef on the surface. Meek taking down Drake would've lowered his value and made his apple deal pointleas. But Meek wasn't built for it. The only people that could are his friends or are connected to Apple music. That's really it.I've only listened to the first 30 minutes but he makes some strange but interesting points. But like @hexagram23 said, I think he's such a big fan of the music that he misjudged Drake as an artist and as a man. He thinks Drake is what Joe Buddens could have been if the industry wasn't so cookie cutter in the early 2000s. I've said the same thing myself, kids today have way more freedom in hip hop than we did 10-15 years ago. The problem is the talent level has dropped significantly...
But back to Buddens point/consipiracy theory, maybe Drake isn't "pushing the agenda" towards whats "next" in hip hop becuz Drake ALREADY IS whats next in hip hop: a non threatening crossover superstar with broad appeal tied directly to streaming services and social media platforms.
And maybe thats why Jay/Puff sent Meek to distract/expose him cuz that direction in the industry cuts the OG's and Big Homeys...black moguls with street credibility...out of the process. And maybe thats why Hov went all in with Tidal, maybe thats why Puff quit music to do movies and maybe thats why 50 is trading his fortune for instagram like.
Not saying I believe all this, just playing along with his theory
Minus the incessant screaming, I get what Budden is saying. Because as a fan of both, I see it as Budden is watching himself playing chess with Hov. Let's say you entertain the Hov conspiracy. Considering Budden and Drake's similarities (at his heart of hearts, Drake is a product of Phonte/Ye versatility, Joe Budden introspection/moods, Jay-Z/Pusha charisma now...not priort to Take Care), Budden is watching what would have happened between him and Hov had Budden's career took off.
Like Drake, Budden's favorite rapper and the one he wanted to be like at the time was Hov (and Em...but he modeled himself after Hov in some areas). Granted he never got the look or appreciation Drake got from Jigga...at some degree Hov fukked with him (almost signed off on son going to the Roc). the "Pump It Up" shyt was very instrumental too. Hov thought he got the best of Joe, then Joe came back a week later and smashed it, down to even flipping the same basketball references. next thing you know...he gets blackballed.
I think Joe Budden is seeing Hov trying to do the same shyt to Drake right now...that He did to budden...but Hov can't cuz of where Drake is at now...so its taking a different direction.
Peaked at what?
He's such a better artist now than what he was on Take Care
Did I ask your age? He sounds better...Nooooo breh I'm 31 I was listening to him and krit since 09. Drake dosent sound the same. Take care was his peak. Why can't people admit that he's a great artist. Budden is right something is going on or is diffrent.
