Jaden got this shyt back to 12%......
the rating on imdb keeps dropping. its like everyone got together to shyt on this movie extra hard
that would've defeated the purpose of the movie
it was about Jaden facing his fears and becoming a man on his own. Will was with him the whole time. I think people expected Will to be his usual self and kill a few animals or some shyt but the movie was about him hand Jaden coping with the loss of Zoe and Jaden becoming a ghost almost like Will did.
I think producers and studios have forced fed the masses cgi, explosions, love interest angles and action action action so much that they can't keep their attention with simple morality flicks with minimum action.
you guys knew this shyt was going to suck from the trailer alone.
Damn, is it that bad??
Jaden can't even be a good hype man for his dad rapping. How the hell he gon act?![]()
Your right I just saw it . It is definitely not as bad as the reviews make it out to be . The happening and air bender deserve 12%. this movies biggest sin is its average but is being released at the summer blockbuster period . This is a August movieOK, I saw the movie yesterday and the critics went overboard. It's clearly a M. Knight hate thing. But as everyone has been saying. It's Jaden movie. Will is really just there as a supporting actor. I thought it was pretty good but not great. Like C+/B-. Happy to report there was no twist and it's just a straight forward sci-fi adventure. I think it's good for families and kids. I thought the sci-fi elements were dope like Jaden suit and the weapons he used.
I love Will but he kinda mailed it in on this role but I don't blame him, this is about his son so he wanted to let him shine. I would of liked the story more if Will had a bigger part. Jaden did start out a little shaky acting wise. He's still learning, this is only his 4th film. But something happen, he litterally matured as an actor as the film went on. It was very hard for any 14 year old to carry a blockbuster summer movie. I don't care who it is. "Karate Kid" he did great but he didn't really carry it, he had Jackie Chan with him the whole time. On "The Day The Earth Stood Still" remake he had Keanu and Jennifer Connley. "Pursuit" he had his Dad. But with "After Earth" they really put this on Jaden's shoulders. So I can understand some criticisms of putting it on Jaden's back but the film was like a metaphor for Will putting his son out there as an actor, it was weird.
Also the themes dealt with global warming and the environment. There wasn't any Scientology propaganda. The whole "Fear" concept has been talked about for generations. I think this is M. Knight best movie in years. Loved the whole Earth sequences, they were dope. Jaden really started to do good once he had to do the survival scenes. They were tense as hell. I thought the concept was made creative, the execution was slightly off as some parts did drag a little. But the movie was only a little over an hour and 1/2 so it moved very fast.
As for the Box Office numbers. Well there's a lot of competition still out there and they moved it up a week. It doesn't open worldwide till next week. I think they should of stuck to their guns and Opened next week with less competition, it would of done better. But they were trying to get away from "Man of Steel" coming out in 2 weeks. Overall the critics were wrong, this wasn't a bad movie. They just don't like M. Knight. Also this is not going to be bad for Will. It will recoup overseas. It will probably disappoint domestically though. Will will be back with some strong sequels including hopefully Bad Boys III. Jaden can now continue to grow as an actor but by the time he's in his 20's, he could very well be a young action star if he keeps this up. But movie was straight.

The beginning was shaky and the accentsDidn't read any of the shyt posted in this thread but I just came back from the theaters and thought it was pretty good.
Granted I didn't like the accents they used and the way the baboon chase and the jungle cat battle royal played out, i felt they should've executed both better as it was too convenient to me. Like, even with the suspension of disbelief element factored and understood, aint no way homeboy should've made it to the water. But whatever.
Outside of that, the father/son -- brother/sister element was very well done. that Zoe girl sexy as fukk. I had no problem with Jaden's acting at all, esp in the more emotional scenes where i thought he was great. Again, i felt they should've just ditched the accents. The visuals were pretty good and everything else plot/scope wise was laid out and executed fairly neatly.
With all these bullshyt hollywood movies stereotyping blacks (yknow, the ones that actually have black people in em) and white washing the characters b/c they dont want more than one black person -man or woman- on screen, i'll always applaud efforts to make scifi/action movies that center around family/friendships amongst black people.
Soto Will and young Jaden
Note: Funny shyt was that walkin out of the theater, there was a group of like 5 little white girls (prob no older than 7 or 8 years old) behind me leaving with their parents and they were chatterin about how that was 'the greatest movie ever'and how they "dont even like watchin those types of movies!"
