I think its more or less the chemistry. It work in Pursuit of Happiness because Jaden was a little kid and was considered cute. I think the majority went to see this because they wanted to see Will Smith. He was the headliner and Jaden go too much screen time alone. I think some might even believe they were duped into seeing this thinking it was a Will Smith movie when it was really about Jaden.

It wasn't a bad movie though.

I thought the movie and Jaden's acting was really good. If this kid is acting like this at 14, imagine how he would be in 10 years. I understand that people have their own opinion, but some of the criticism that this movie is receiving is so unnecessary. People are really trying to nitpick at some of the small things instead of looking at the big picture. It's a sci-fi movie through and through with a good concept and good acting. If you don't like Jaden or anybody else associated with the movie, then don't go watch it. Don't just automatically assume it's garbage because of that.

I can't wait for the sequel.

Hermione, Harry and Ron were all better actors in the early Potter flicks than Jaden Smith is now and as young adults they shyt all over him in quality of acting.
To even think of comparing Jaden's skills as an actor with Jennifer Lawrence is just retarded. The only person in Jaden's age range I can recall from The Hunger Games was the little girl who played Rue and she was better than him too.
I have no recollection of that Percy Jackson movie so I can't speak on those kids acting talents but everyone in those Twilight movies suck dikk except for Dakota Fanning (who is now and was at the same age, a better actor than Jaden Smith).
