shyt my homeboy is a pilot has been for about 3 years now and flies regional. The planes literally fly themselves. He absolutely loves it. The hard part was during Covid when they were shorting them hours and he weas having a hard time getting hours.12 out of 15 people are incapable of getting their foot in the door. Out of the three that do, two of them will wash out in pilot school due to performance, stress, or both. The kicker is that even after you clear it all, the money a lot of airlines pay isn't in line with the amount of stress the job induces today. A 15 - 25 year pilot is absolutely coasting to retirement as far as salary goes, but the "entry" level of compensation -- while satisfactory for the majority of the general population -- isn't cutting it for those will the skills and ability to enter the field and successfully graduate.
My classmate that I still keep in contact with has a stepsibiling that has been a pilot for the last seven years and honestly, it's stressful, even for the money they make. When I read their feed, I always walk away with the sentiment that I wouldn't want to deal with it. My classmate makes more than she does and she's a CRNA. A very meticulous and specialized field that also that deserves compensation, but airline pilots have thousands of lives in their hands weekly. Less than a decade of flight experience or not, no thanks. I'd pass without a second thought on anything less than 200k. Commercial pilots make even less than airline.
It's just not worth the stress or financial investment for a lot of qualified candidates.
Did he go straight into regional flying or did he have to slum it in another job to log enough hours?shyt my homeboy is a pilot has been for about 3 years now and flies regional. The school he went to, as soon as he got his double engine licensce he transitioned to be an instructor for the school. As he was building his hours up as an instructor he applied for some regional gig and got 2 offers. The rest is history. Right now he building hours to transition to the big boys like American and etc.Did he go straight into regional flying or did he have to slum it in another job to log enough hours?
OT theres a YouTube channel CitationMax this charter pilot just flying all over the country solo getting a private jet in place for chartered flights. Dudes living the life.
In all seriousness, if they had taken the time to invest in ground infrastructure, like high-speed rail with hubs in major cities, this wouldn't be as big of an issue.

greyhound is only if you really broke and/or you tryna carry some dope across country.
Pilots get paid 6 figures and airlines aren't as profitable as people might assume.Or....wait...hang on...just hear me out. I know this is controversial...
