certs are just tests that you pass that let you work is an IT person, an IT person is basically the help desk and the people that make sure computers and networks in an office are working, they can work anywhere since all offices have networks and computers, IT guys have nothing to do with with silicon valley

technically speaking you dont have to go to school to get certs, you just have to pass the tests

a STEM degree is an actual bachelors, master or PHD in Math or Science from a university, very different than a cert

using a car as an analogy, your local mechanic would be the guy with certs, he may or may not have gone to school, but he knows how to fix things

in this analogy the person that designed the car wouldbe the person with a STEM degree, they have a degree in mechanical engineering or something and they MAKE the cars (as opposed to fixing)

so people in silicon valley are people (mostly with high level STEM degrees) that MAKE the computers, people with certs are the people that fix and maintain computers, so mixing up guys with certs and people in SV is like mixing up the mechanic at a local shop with car designers at GM or BMW

so bottom line i guess would be dont confuse your local mechanic with a car designer

the analogy does break down when it comes to programming, the programmer can be somebody with no degree or somebody with a degree, but if you have a degree in programming its considered STEM, programming (ie software) have their own hierarchy cuz you have programmers and then you have software engineers and then there are systems engineering.....it gets complicated...

for programmers you can get a degree in computer science (a STEM degree) or you can go certificates at what are called coding schools or you can just teach yourself

if you want to get into programming and dont want to spend 4 years getting a computer science degree, i would look into coding schools, they last weeks and apparently people do get hired off them

Exactly, overall cats have better chance of becoming a decently paid health care professional(making 50-350k ) a year, or engineer( making 55-200k) then breaking into the nba or entertainment business.

Majoring in bs, is why our communities can't keep up. With that said, because we're so poorly represented in higher learning, degrees in history or political science, can be just as fulfilling. It's important for people to know and understand history, and how laws work....

no not having a stable economic base in our community is why we cant compete.....thats why blacks need to do their own thing and stop being punk bytches

That's why we gotta pool our resources and start our own. As things look now, I may have to take an initial pay cut when I make that transition to IT just to get my feet wet.

The thing about the tech field, is that as technical as it may be it is basically like art. And I think that if all the Black grads are eager to work for cac tech companies, they are missing out on being independent of the cac thought process and actually being able to develop some proper never seen before shyt. Wanting to work as a drone for cacs is stifling Black creativity in all professions. Its like a rapper being in the studio surrounded by cacs telling him what to do, you wont get much creativity and expansion under those conditions..

People are envious and drawn to our free flowing creativity to the point of wanting to direct it themselves, and yet we still cant measure the power we have.
