Definitely.

I'm not speaking on a pedestal; it's almost ingrained in me to be willing to crash out of disrespect gets to a certain level.

And that's with a law degree, career, family and property ownership that I could risk losing.

For black men; especially us who grew up in the hood, I realized that they aren't afraid of anyone. They are afraid of vulnerability.

And ironically, we need more stoicism but at the same time, more capabilities of being able to be comfortable showing vulnerability.

It's an oxymoron but it's yin/yang.

Become someone's punching bag, eventually others will test you and then you'll become their punching bag.

Don't tolerate disrespect. That doesn't mean you need to resort to a physical fight or yelling either.

Nah fukk all of that

Every now and then, you need to bark and bite.

I say that as someone who watched the video and saw that much of the points are similar to way I handle conflicts.

You are going to encounter people who do not recognise you are making a choice and will see it as a game to keep on pushing you. Letting people know the depths of your anger can go a long way into putting things into perspective.

Just have comebacks or know Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and naturally lower your disrespect ratio

To be honest many of us grew up in dysfunction and don't even have the tools to remain calm when the situation calls for it.

For example, you're walking to work and someone starts talking shyt from across the street. How many are foolishly getting triggered instead of tuning them out and focusing on your purpose?

On the other hand if that individual crosses the street and physically gets in your way - then it's fight or flight time.

Gotta be able to pick and choose your battles.

It all ties into poverty imo

If you got shyt to lose you're not willing to do that
Yes and no.

I do agree that it ties into poverty, though. That being said, middle class and lower middle class black kids can also be detrimentally impacted by trying to navigate "what does it mean for me to present as a strong, unafraid black man." And that has serious potential to get them jammed up.

I would adjust your stance and say that this is a result of the negative aspects of poverty/survival being intertwined with what it means to be black.

Again, I'm never speaking from a pedestal, I'm speaking from my own flaws.

I've told this story before but if anyone doesn't mind a "once upon a time":
