If you playing 82 games plus four 7 game playoff rounds you are gonna run into other sports...its unavoidable. And its not an either or thing. NBA has proven it can thrive alonside those other sports. The focus should be whats best for your game rather than avoiding other sports. That said, I have been saying they should start on Christmas and run the summer. They had a perfect opportunity and passed on it.

I love 70 games. Opening day Christmas, season ends a couple weeks before week 0 of CFB. It’s perfect

82 games is fine, the league needs to start extremely start cracking down on load management.

If AC Green bumazz didn't skip out on games just about any other play can go out and play.
They did crack down on it with the eligibility for awards rule. Certain amount of games has to be played and guess what? Dudes still missing games because of legit injuries. Now we bout to have the leagues best players not eligible for those awards. They complained about Kawhi about him load managing just to find out he has a legit degenerative knees. Complain about Embid dude has legit injury issues and the list of names goes on. It’s just these goofy ass fans and media push this dumb shyt. These dudes hooping year round in AAU etc til they get into the league. Plus with the way the game played today it puts more stress on the body due to floor spacing with everyone able to shoot.

The bubble kinda proved that playing deep into the summer doesn’t translate to bigger ratings. I think people are ingrained into a Oct-June NBA season. That’s I think starting in early October makes sense. Sure, October is a busy sports month, but I rather take some bumps in October for a better end of season/playoffs for the players especially

They are not cutting the number of games down.

Every few years the idea of this topic comes up; however, those owners are not playing a shortened schedule and losing revenue.

Now where the league can make things better is scheduling less back to backs and getting a little more creative with the scheduling.

I think they should start the season 2 weeks earlier so there are less back-to-backs and it’s less compressed with the NBA Cup and ASB.
I would start the season 2-3 weeks earlier

I don’t think games are the issue as much as the compressed timeline.
Yup. This is what the NHL does. Season starts before October 10.

No way they shorten the season, owners aren't gonna take less money from TV deals or arena revenue.

They should just change the season calendar, 3 games a week max per team and spread that shyt out.

And this is more of a team thing than the players, we need to start being clear about that.

KD and Cade talking about how much they're tracked in workouts etc

not even owners
An nba player making 30 mill now would then make 25 mill with 12 less game. That's like 20 million in a 5 year contract.

Hell no

Above the fray.
Expand the size of rosters. Coach has more options about what the rotation will be.

Money grabs are what got the NBA to the point where any of this silly shyt is even being discussed. They expanded theamount of playoff rounds, then stretched the first round to best of seven.
If youre on a contending team, you play lots of extra games when your team goes on its playoff runs.

Tell em Moses.

That's 180 games removed. 180 fewer games on tv, 180 games of fewer revenues that's like 1 billion lost

Players would lose so much money
I don't see why the national TV package would have to change at all though. They can still have games on every night and still broadcast the same amount of national TV games even if reducing the total games played. The local TV packages would be hurt of course but from my understanding that pales in comparison to the national TV game.

At a certain point the NBA needs to focus on the long term. Having healthier and less tired players improves the game to game product, reduces the chance for injuries so people have more faith in buying tickets to go to the game. And both the players and owners have been greedy and both sides have said they don't want to risk losing money so reducing games will likely never happen.
