Even your description isn't clear on his music.

He makes songs for the ladies, I get that, but none of these songs sound any particular way. It feels like he's reaching for something with every release that he'll never get... and if you're doing that, how do you NOT improve on it? Are any of his ladies singles better than Lotus Flower Bomb or Bad with Tiara Thomas?

:dahell:

Wale wants to be a superstar but doesnt have the the "it" factor to catapult him to the next level. His Delivery is terrible and its an accomplishment he made it this far wit that delivery.

This is a great thread because it seems Wale is doing whatever get hit records instead of just letting the music bubble.

How many Wale records that people know well where there is no R&B feature carry the song?

It's sad... but honestly, his biggest and probably most recognizable records are known because of the chorus and the singer's performance.

Lotus Flower Bomb - Miguel
Bad - Tiara Thomas
The Matrimony - Usher

These 3 specifically... but you can go even further and all of his hits have a great feature on the hook that make the song stick.

Another example of what I'm talking about with him not really believing in his "real" shyt/music is the fact that he didn't even upload that Black Gold song to his 'Wale' Youtube Channel... he uploaded it to his EveryBlueMoon Channel

Bro... I know the story from how his debut happened. But breh... that Lady Gaga thing happened 9 years ago. He's been rebounded from that, and put out better lead singles/hits since then. He's got on with MMG, Ambition and Gifted were solid well put together records... I still feel like he's hasn't perfected a sound after all this time. Why is that? He's been established, he's known in this industry... why is he doing songs with G-Eazy in 2017 reaching for a radio hit?

He's from D.C.

Close the thread. He's from D.C. and he's really from MD.. the identity crisis that has nothing to do with talent strted a long time ago

D.C. Has no identity from a hip hop standpoint and the artists there still struggle to find their own lane.. they're technically in the southern region but are really close to the north...

Who is Shy Glizzy? Fat Trel? Logic? Even logic has no identity

Guy cam flow with the best of them

None of those guys have had the longevity as Wale, so I'm holding him to a higher standard. Wale started poppin on the scene in 2006... don't you think he should have figured out his own sound by now?

Bro it started then...

He was dealing with that issue from the jump when he realized D.C. wouldn't embrace him being from Moco.. the city threw him shade then..

@GoldenGlove have you been to DC? Or the DMV?

Most people there were big on Jeezy, Gucci, Wayne last decade

They like to dance/move hence the gogo culture that has survived almost 30 years..

Before last decade they rocked with Hov, Nas, types but they love three six, scarface, No Limit/Cashmoney and Ball & G as well

All that rolled in one = confusion

I thought Cole woke him up, but...

Nope...

Wale is goofy and at this point I don't even care what he does anymore. Dude could easily put out the Cheat Code album to earn the respect of fans, but he wants to drop that goofy poetry slam and pop stuff then gets mad when nobody feels it.

It's like Kanye. Ye could drop a album with 10 tracks of straight Soul and Gospel samples with mediocre or even borderline trash lyrics and people will call it a classic but he doesn't want to, BUT he at least has a past resume that keeps people checking for him, Wale cant say the same.

Nah, I'm from the Chicagoland area tho... and the music here has always had plenty of different vibes and sounds that people rock with. So I get that the area doesn't really have 1 set sound, Chicago is a like that in a lot of ways. I can play songs that dropped in the last year or so from new and old artists that don't sound anything like each other.
