Was listening to the radio. What exactly happened to cause the downfall of Hip Hop?

The changing in national radio formatting was on some super sinister stuff that very few people know about. Your favorite DJ couldnt play what he wanted to no more. As a result Hip Hop lost its regional appeal which homogenized the culture into one big commercial driven mess.

New acts couldnt be broken anymore, unless they had a major label co-sign

NWA Putting the N word in the name of the group for shock value so they could go viral before that was a thing.

After that corporate music noticed the selling power of pathology + shock value. Been a race to the bottom ever since.
Corporations were not the only ones that noticed the value of shock factor so did artists. This is constantly downplayed in these discussions. Dumbing down to double dollars been a rap tradition for decades. Entertainers played whatever role they had to to maximize attention and dollars. It wasn't all done to them.

The music buisness is and will be run by a collective of people that act like money is the only reason to live, once it went mainstream it was doomed from the start. I’d also add in the over reliance on the trauma that is being from the hood for the image and substance of the craft for the most part also put it in a metaphorical and often times literal death loop too.

That said, I think hip hop is doing well if you don’t focus on whose on the radio at the moment or who the youth listen to,

Actually I also blame the youth too

Atlanta and the South, having no artistic bone in their body and not caring about the culture..
(aside from 1990s guys like Scarface, Goodie Mobb, Outkast, 8ball n MJG)

2000's South was awful, starting with Lil Wayne.

We as a people falling off. When we stopped being shamed so did hip hop. When we stopped hiding the hoes in the family so did hip-hop. When we stopped being ashamed of our drug dealing/taking folks so did hip hop.

These single mother homes scared of these kids. Ain't no more wait till your father gets home.

Yes cacs play a roll but they ain't nothing but carpetbaggers they hop on any money making trend that's bubbling. Artist development has gone out the window. Sign, profit, drop, rinse, repeat.

Disposable art.

Bring back the shame/standards.

This combined with the elimination of the barrier of entry killed it. Also can’t forget old artists figuring out they were giving away millions of dollars in hit samples.

There are no gatekeepers. It’s all people who are gang affiliated muscling their way into the industry or women people want to fukk.

I think hiphop is just fine. Its rap that has been hijacked by corny characters.
