Was Pau Gasol even a top 15 player in 2009 and 2010?

Because that was the entire inspiration of the thread as spelled out in the OP...and explicitly stated in the post I was responding to

:unimpressed:

So it was really about who Bron had play alongside him being better than Kobe?

Again.....dudes (OP) have made so many iterations of the same tired arguments that, as I said earlier, the shyt gets boring.

All I know is, when Pau was traded for chump change and the Lakers kept Bynum, the energy was around the Lakers now being certain championship contenders....and that should be ok to “Laker fans” but seems to rub Kobe fans the wrong way.

These discussions get boring after a while. Just boring.

I try with NBA talk because I love the sport but the shyt is just juvenile and agenda ridden.

:dead: I ain't even gonna entertain this
Yeah this has gotten too extreme on both sides. But you’re overstating Pau as some sort of elite defender. He benefitted from the combined length of the Lakers front line and helped clog things up but he was never able to switch the way Bosh was. And he often struggled to guard or force the issue offensively on marquee players. He did a better job of guarding Duncan than Bosh did though. Let’s be clear, I’m not saying that it’s irrational to say one is better than the other but I always said Bosh was better. At that time Bosh was drawing young KG comparisons. The reason Lakers fan sometimes shyt on Pau is that their last memory of him when Kobe was still functional was Phil punching him in the chest asking him to wake up as he failed to do anything on Dirk offensively.

Listen bro. I’m not trying to derail this thread. Not at all. And I know you said this list isn’t in order. But Carmelo Anthony wasn’t better than Pierce until like the 2013 season when Pierce was an old man.

Kobe is the only top 10 player that gets penalized for playing with great players. :wow:

Magic played with possibly the 2nd greatest player ever.....it's all good.

Shaq played with the 2nd greatest SG ever....crickets

Lebron played with the 3rd greatest SG ever and another all-star to boot... "You go Kang!"

Kobe played with a top 20 player(at the time)... "It's not fair!!!"

Pau was better than Bosh and Amar'e at several aspects of basketball you nikkas only care about scoring :snoop:
People ignoring Gasol passing ability...smh. Having a big that can be a playmaker in the post is such a plus. That’s why Denver is so hard to stop with Jokic. Gasol is a top 5 passing big all time,

DRose, Bosh, and Amare

All-NBA in '09 and '10 as well

Easily a top 15 player both seasons and probably top 10 in 2010

Crazy how the weak East shyt is brought up all the time but superstar PF Chris Bosh struggled making the playoffs back then

I agree with both sides

but Pau wasnt top 15 to me

Kobe made him better :yeshrug: he worked hard and never gave up
one of the only big men I saw consistently keep the ball up on boards, and rise straight back up.

Pairing him with Bynum was a cold combo for both

That locked in play where he dunked on Garnett was amazing in the finals and solidified him

But yall wont ever give Kobe or him credit for boosting eachother, Pau bought in harder than anyone he was paired with

:salute:

Yeah if you're soooooo tired of these discussions you're more than welcome to, you know...not have multiple posts in the thread and quote me responding to an entirely different person making some weird ultimately worthless crybaby meta-argument about the discussion instead of saying anything substantive about my post at all

Just a suggestion

You can't judge Pau by the numbers and to do so is disingenous. I agree that people shouldn't use Pau to diminish Kobe but Pau in a stacked Western Conference was super efficient and one of the best rim protectors in the game and honestly he was arguably better than Amare or Bosh and rookie D-Rose (2010 is another story).
