they are in the driver's seat though. The only way they wouldn't be is if Greg Monroe actually didn't sign with anyone this summer and took the qualifying offer. Otherwise, anything he signs, they can match.
Monroe is outta there one way or another. IMO he's not gonna want to stay there past this season and the Pistons would have no reason to keep him either (considering where their money and future is tied up), in a bargaining sense other teams have more leverage because they know some team is gonna throw the max on his table in FA.

Pistons could very well lose him for nothing.

My point though is that if he decided to sign for the QO, the risk is completely on him, not the Pistons. At this point, Monroe can't pick his destination.

Be that as it may, the fact that Falk doesn't want Monroe there is gonna lower his value a bit, but not to the point where a 1st rounder and an expiring get it done.. Monroe makes the most sense IMO in Portland if the Trail Blazers are struggling by deadline

I think it's a really good trade for the Wiz, they really didn't give up much and Gortat's game is a perfect pairing with Wall. I think his production will shoot back up to where it was with Nash since Wall is a willing passer and I bet Gortat will become his favorite weapon.

I just see it as giving up a little to get a quality player like Gortat vs giving up a lot to get Monroe.

Absolutely it's a good trade (I hoped that somehow the Thunder would have got Gortat last season). As long as he stays healthy the trade will have nothing but upside, but that's what it's heavily reliant upon. And although the trade has a positive asset/quality ratio, ya'dont get any where in this league without having a big risk, big reward mentality.

History and reality say that barring injury he's gonna have 100s on the table and 20s on the floor come FA. And you can sure as hell bet that Detroit will Camby any thoughts of a QO.

Like I said before, Detroit won't have the upper hand in bargaining (regardless of the x-amount that will be offered - because of course a 1st round and expiring asset won't get it done), therefore they won't be in the driver's seat. It'll come down to how far teams want to go in giving up the absolute minimum for him.

@PS4 wizards vs heat ECF:blessed: :wow:
If the Heat can make it :boss:
:heh: Another Ernie Grunfeld move. Trade a 1st rounder for Gortat who could just be only there for a year rental. But, :manny: I guess he wants to save his job. On paper, Wiz Kidz look like they will make the playoffs, but :ohhh: Suns got 4 picks in the 1st round next season though.
You don't understand the business angle, most fans never do. Wiz been rebuilding for a few years now and want to start winning NOW. Its time. So your idea is retarded and would backfire like it did for OKC
OKC lost J.Green and J.Harden because they drafted too much talent. Wiz did the same, but we got a mix of vets that makes it work
We need a Vet like Gortat, not some young scrub who might need 4yrs to be ready
We also will have 16mil in cap space next season, so we can pick up a proven big man instead of rolling the dice
But with Gortat and Vesely? We more than straight at that position. Nene & Seraphin at the 4 :whew:
look at john walls preseason numbers.... he still sucks and as long as he does so will the wiz. this dude must not touch bball in the offseason
You obviously did not watch the preseason games. Wiz used all 20 or whatever it was ppl on its roster
Everyones numbers where skewed. Wall got less time, the backups got more time.
Beal should average 25+ pts this year is what I saw. Wall should be pulling 17 & 11.somethin :whoo:
Hating means you worried...
nevermind that, Shannon Brown's available? :ohhh:

he'd be key for anyone tryna make the playoffs
:laff: Ok Treehuggin

The thing about Gortat is that his big ass can run. He can run with Wall and them, and he can play the pick and roll. Good pick up.

Should have made the pick LOTTERY PROTECTED as the Wizards are not shoe ins for the postseason. It'd be poetic justice if the Wizards are 13 or 14 in the lottery and lose the pick, while missing the playoffs, and losing Gortat in free agency.

I don't mind Gortat on the Wizards but I am enraged by the idiot who made the decision and that is Ernie Grunfeld. He is desperate to save his job and if he was soooo concerned about having a young big, he should have gotten one in the 2013 draft. Especially with Glen Rice looking like a legit player and Otto Porter being out with various injuries in his young career. It's just a POOR use of resources. You potentially give up a pick in the teens which could net a future starter (if a real GM was picking of course) for a one year rental of a guy who probably move on next year.

The cap flexibility was going to be there either way. The 2011 draft was a colossal bust with Vesley and Singleton, that bullshid has set the franchise back and the 2009 draft is not too far behind as Ernie did something very similar trading away the #5 for a one year rental of Foye and Miller. The rationale in 2009 was "Arenas is back healthy, Jamison and Butler are still here, let's make a run to the conference finals before Abe dies!"

And we've seen how that turned out. This year they are dead set to be an 8th seed and get swept by MIA or whoever.

It's amazing he has a job still.
