Unless Drake speaks on the subject we are left with our comparisons of their careers. What else would we be talking about? unless youve got some insight on what Drake thinks. Drake could say he wants Mike Jones career - that would just make him an idiot!

He actually has spoken about it to a certain extent in different interviews...not explicitly "no I would never trade my career for the one of a guy like common's" or anything...but he's explained in a roundabout way that he's not laying awake at night thinking about how he can win over the most ardent "real hip hop son!" rap traditionalist..for example:

I’m so glad to be at that place where I know who I want to be appreciated by, and as long as I’m appreciated by those people, I don’t know man, I just don’t care.

I don’t make music for nikkas who don’t get p*ssy. I don’t. If you have a frustrating time with women, and you just spend your life hating on everybody, I’m not for you. I’m not for you. You’re an overly aggressive, bitter-ass dude that only wants to listen to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and some shyt that was incredible while you were in your prime.

Like, that shyt’s incredible to me too. I just appreciate it. I don’t hate on it. People are always like, “Man, this isn’t real rap,” but I don’t know man. It’s real to me, and a lot of other people apparently. That’s all I have to say about that. By the way, I love that album.

Well, here’s the thing. I think what people often get misconstrued is there’s a sonic real and there’s a connection real. So, often people are like, “This isn’t real,” because to them real is a sound. It’s sonic. It’s not gritty. It’s not hip-hop. There’s no boom-bap to it. It’s 40 playing sweet-ass chords and filtered drums. That’s not real to them.

That’s just people whose ears are trained for a certain sound, and they feel that’s hip-hop. More power to them. I respect that. If you have a genre that you’re passionate about or a type of music that you’re passionate about, I salute you for that.

I love when people get upset and say my music isn’t hip-hop. I’m like, “That’s great. You’re passionate about something.” I’m not saying I agree with it, but I’m glad to see they’re passionate about something.

Those just strike me as the thoughts of an artist not too overly concerned with pandering to dyed in the wool, "we want that REAL hip hop son!!!" rap traditionalists or how they think The Motto stacks up against Shook Ones or Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nothing to fukk With in some "All time classic hip hop song" list they're posting online...validation from his actual fanbase and praise from his peers in the current game and older acts he considers legends like Jay-Z, seem more important to him...being able to pull off something like OVO Fest seems more important to him than a Big Mel cosign on the internet...like I said before, he's not that type of rapper... a guy like Joey Bad Ass would prolly throw his lil brother off a balcony to have Common's career, Drake not so much

Well there you go to a certain extent.

Of course the thing that's been left unsaid through this whole exchange is the jarring similarities between Common and Drake. Sure, Com can make the aggressive shyt over boom bap production, but he can also make top flight girl songs (The Light). And do them in a way where he maintains his integrity (sometimes). I'd bet Drake thinks very highly of The Light.

But I'll give it to you though - I think based on that quote alone its fair to say that Drake doesn't want Common's career. I guess at quote shows he's only out for the pop success.

Delivering memorable verses and hooks is what great pop artists do...I get why my 11 year old niece and all her friends like him.. Hes soft on the ears, melodic and says things that are easy to digest.

Im not trying to take shots here...But what makes tv and music such a different mediam where you and Napolean can sit around with my daughters girl scout troop and have the same visceral reaction to dude rapping.. Ive witnessed these girls rap his verses bar by bar without breaking a sweat or missing a beat.. But I dont think yall would sit around and watch Nick or Disney Channel with them and have the same level of excitement..

Look Drake is talented and makes good songs..Not great but good... But he doesnt make music for grown heterosexual men... Its okay for you to casually observe and like him the same way I might do a chick flick or WNBA game.. But for you to be fanatic for him is unsettling for me..

This post is hate period
Nothing u said contains any consistency
I say the man delivers memorable verses and hooks and u use that as a slight towards him as a rapper not realizing that to be great like a Pac or Jay ur music needs to lay an impact ...and watever da fck way u wanna analyze it...
Like a Pac like a Jay when Drake lays down a verse it is highly acclaimed within the hip hop community

What was homosexual bout started from the bottom, 5am, All me, etc.

What was homosecual bout his first single that he recently dropped?

Ur whole analysis is baseless generalizations in order to downplay his accomplishments and talent

Fact is..when Drake lays down a verse mufckaz pay attention

Many hip hop artists across the board respect him as a LYRICIST and talented songwriter

All that nonsense ur talkin really means squat

Mr. Drake is too soft because he says things that may make women seem more than sexual objects but next minute im heated bout Chris brown puttin the beats on a female who was gettin outta pocket

nikka plz :childplease:

Get ya story straight B

Like me sayin...

Pac is a bytchmade fatherless ass nikka who was easily impressionable and had no strong sense of self so his music is not made for strong grounded men who have a sense of self

Im jus sayin :mjpls:

50 Cent going after Rick Ross has proven to the Hip Hop world that you're career can survive as long as u keep making hit songs. All Common has to do is make a dope album with a few hot songs and he'l be ok.

This pic says all that needs to be said about who won this "beef"

Drakes bodyguard waiting for the distress signal incase Common decided to put those hands on him (look like he's mid thought on that one)

Commons already a hip hop legend, his catalogue in Music and Acting is better than Drakes, and nothing Drizzy could do at this point could ever have an effect on a legend like commons career
