not really earth shattering news. the super rich and social elite run the oligarchy that is the us gov from the inception of this country. that model also runs pretty much every other country worth mentioning.

that said, there are still policy and executive decisions made by the potus that have an impact on the populous...within the boundaries of the primary goal...which is keeping the rich wealthy. what side of the boundary the decisions happen to be made is where i think voter input matters. i won't sugar coat it, at its simplest form choosing a political leader is like choosing between the carrot or the stick. personally i'd prefer to eat rather than getting beat by the stick. for me that's the difference between the dems and the republicans. every now and then those 'in charge' may conduct a social experiment on some randolph and mortimer sh1t or jolt the system if it gets too far off course, but the point is we do have a choice. how much it matters has been debated to death, but i don't sh1t on those who choose to exercise their option to vote.

Some info on the guys that were traded for him

Mullah Mohammad Fazl

Fazl commanded the main force fighting the U.S.-backed Northern Alliance in 2001, and served as chief of army staff under the Taliban regime. He has been accused of war crimes during Afghanistan’s civil war in the 1990s. Fazl was detained after surrendering to Abdul Rashid Dostam, the leader of Afghanistan’s Uzbek community, in November 2001. He was wanted by the United Nations in connection with the massacre of thousands of Afghan Shiites during the Taliban’s rule. “When asked about the murders, he did not express any regret,” according to the detainee assessment. He was alleged to have been associated with several militant Islamist groups, including al Qaeda. He was transferred into U.S. custody in December 2001 and was one of the first arrivals at Guantanamo, where he was assessed as having high intelligence value.

Mullah Norullah Noori

Noori served as governor of Balkh province in the Taliban regime and played some role in coordinating the fight against the Northern Alliance. Like Fazl, Noori was detained after surrendering to Dostam, the Uzbek leader, in 2001.Noori claimed during interrogation that “he never received any weapons or military training.” According to 2008 detainee assessment, Noori “continues to deny his role, importance and level of access to Taliban officials.” That same assessment characterized him as high risk and of high intelligence value.

Abdul Haq Wasiq

Wasiq was the deputy chief of the Taliban regime’s intelligence service. His cousin was head of the service. An administrative review in 2007 cited a source as saying that Wasiq was also “an al Qaeda intelligence member” and had links with members of another militant Islamist group, Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin. Wasiq claimed, according to the review, that he was arrested while trying to help the United States locate senior Taliban figures. He denied any links to militant groups.

Mohammad Nabi Omari

Omari was a minor Taliban official in Khost Province. According to the first administrative review in 2004, he was a member of the Taliban and associated with both al Qaeda and another militant group Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin. He was the Taliban’s chief of communications and helped al Qaeda members escape from Afghanistan to Pakistan. Omari acknowledged during hearings that he had worked for the Taliban but denied connections with militant groups. He also said that he had worked with a U.S. operative named Mark to try to track down Taliban leader Mullah Omar.

These fukkers are gonna end up on Abu Hamza al-Masri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia status.

let me stop you right here
and say two things for myself (and not for "all black folks")
1. I was very much and still am a great proponent of this idea
2. it was not just any black face I wanted however, there are black people I could not support for this mission
Obama though, was perfect
Black wife, black kids, black grandma
great CV

I wish he could spend another 30 years in office
because it means another 30 years of black and white children seeing black people in positions of power and prowess-political and intellectual- and getting comfortable with the idea
to me this is the best PR for black Americans in ages
if you believe images count, and I do, then this was the mother-load
I can't complain about the images in rap and "reality tv" and not absolutely love the idea of a fully fleshed black. educated. nuclear family. connected. accomplished. being put on tv 24/7 on the greatest reality show ever. I simply can't complain about that. There are so many reasons why black people (AND WHITE PEOPLE who believe in bending the arc of history towards justice) should be thrilled with Obama
The effect the Obamas will have will not be understood for another decade or two and will resonate forever into the future of this country, they are as they say a game changer, whether or not black adults get the full ramifications of this presidency and capitalize on it is left to be seen, but black youth certainly can't help but benefit from it. Why do you think racists have been so overtly regressive during his tenure, they get the game; they understand they need to capture the minds of the children and remind them, "hey yall remember slavery, don't y'all start believing for a second that equality is possible"(I see you Django and 12 years a slave) , why? because they understand the power of belief/disbelief and how hard it is to stop its manifestations. just look at religions
PERSONALLY, I've always said that the DAY Obama leaves office, shyt will get REAL for black people.

We can't keep camp X-ray open forever. Those Taliban commanders had to be released at some point and 13 years without trial is not the "American way" at all(here's looking at you republicans). Bergdahl needed to be brought home because once again, it is not the "American way" to leave soldiers behind and he besides, he was the last publicly known American POW remaining in A-stan. The right wing is doing their damnedest to turn public opinion against the dems for the midterm election and are willing to smear a POW in order to do it. This is something they never would have done during the second Bush era. I think the republicans would rather see Civil war than allow the dems to retake the house in 2016 or see another dem president elected during that cycle. They do not want Obama to have the Hurricane Sandy and UBL victories as the defining moments of his presidency so we get Faux outrage over Benghazi, the VA and now this. I definitely remember the Bush administration and the collapse of the equities, money and property market that Bush presided over and I can say that Obama has been much better than Bush on many levels. These attacks are race based for sure and you black republicans are clearly insane. When a good quarter of your party would like to see you hung in the streets, you need to do some hard thinking.

Obama really shouldn't have staged that photo op in the Rose Garden with the soldier's Duck Dynasty looking parents though.
The optics were just all wrong and it made it much easier for the narrative of "Obama negotiates with terrorists and releases dangerous jihadists who will attack US interests in a years time" to gain traction.
Not everything requires a victory lap.

Keep it 100, those 5 that are being released are going to die in the next year. Believe that. Remember most of those Gitmo prisoners are innocent. Kind of like some brehs in American jails, wrong place wrong time. Yeah either the CIA is going to kill them or their own people are because they don't trust them.

That is kind of fukked up they are demonizing ol'boy already. Some much for concern for the troops. What about Cheney, or Bush, they are straight up war criminals. How many soldiers did they kill?

I bet John McCain aint saying shyt about this though. :sas2:
