The Tidal debacle didn’t help and you’re more than likely forgotten as years go by. Jay is the guy but he was doing too much with his catalog and I think he realized it later.. Tidal was cool but everybody ain’t have that. And people were NOT going there just for Jay albums. His fans that rocked with him
The whole way already has his albums, and the younger fans MIGHT have checked him out if it was there. He wasn’t on Apple or Spotify so they moved on.

Yeah he got a lot of those type of beats and seemed to always pick the wackiest pinball sounding Timbaland beats back then. Even Big Pimpin is a wack Timbaland beat. Pimp C tried to tell us, but at least he saved the song with his charisma.
We need to have a conversation about some of those Timbo and Neptunes beats not aging well too… I thought them shyts were futuristic too lol

Not going to get involved in the Stan shyt or try and downplay his quality as a rapper, but we can all fairly agree that Jay’s influence on young rappers or young crowds is much less than his superstar contemporaries like Tupac, Biggie, Nas, DMX, Cube, Wayne, 50, Snoop and many others right?

Every single one of those rappers is more beloved by younger rappers and younger crowds than Jay-Z. It’s incredibly strange.
What is the evidence of their music being sampled or quoted more than Jay Z’s?

i remember when Jay fans we're going hard at Nas for having "Boring beats" or not up to par when in reality the God was rhyming to be TIMELESS, not to be stuck in a certain TIME! and we tried explaining to these hov stans that wave riding is the type to bite ya in the a$$ in the long run cuz most of that music would sound stale years later. Hov got a few classics and RD will always be one of them, but man this should be a lesson to most that riding a wave and trying to do what everyone else does will pigeonhold you and end up making your catalog look outdated af :wow:
How are we defining “wave riding”?

By the coil’s standards Nas was riding LL cool J’s wave when he went to the track masters for IWW. They also produced Juicy

If Jay Z was riding DMX’s “wave” by using Swizz Beatz for 3 tracks on V2, then by that definition anyone who used Just Blaze or Kanye post Dynasty was riding Jay Z’s wave because they were nobodies before he put them on.

Jay-Z didn’t have his music available to stream on anything but Tidal for years. That’s it. That’s the answer.

Jay obviously has classics :stopitslime:

You can’t make up the asinine assertions cats come up with when it comes to him. They just be saying anything.
Neptunes and Timbaland were at least established star producers prior to Jay. Nobody cared about Kanye or Just Blaze prior to Rocafella, they had zero hits or relevant songs

Jay put them on nationally and by coli definition if you used them after him you were wave riding Jay

Jay's list is a great representation of what kind of artist he is. The kind that rely on other artists to stay relevant. The guy is on lupe's cole's kendrick's and drake's first albums. He forces himself on the features. Even watch the throne didn't really need him.

He always conducted his career as a hustler and business man so from that point of view, he did extremely well and gotta respect him for that. But from an artistic perspective he can't be consider the best. He still one of the goat tho
He on the first album cause they wanted him there. If your favorite older artist wanted him there, they would be there also.

Those artist knew a song with Jay was more impactful to that career then any artist from his generation

J Cole was literally begging for a feature.

Drake was mentioning Jay and saying he never cried bout pac but if Jay died he would cry his heart out on mixtapes before his debut album.

Same with Kendrick, we had Jay as his dream features and cried when Jay sent the verse over

Dudes just say anything. They will bring up Rihanna like Jay didn’t literally build a bear her career also. As he did with Kanye and blaze as producers.

Gave Cole who was literally unknown a platform with all the resources to succeed lol
