It ain’t dated to 96 a lot of early to mid 90’s stuff aged better because of the heavy samples that kept it from locking into one current hot sound a la Timbaland, Neptunes, 00’s Dre, Kanye’s sped up samples, etc

That is not what dated means. It still sounds old. You're not playing any of those songs to someone now without them instantly recognizing that those songs are old. And I could argue that something like "nikka What, nikka Who" sounds more current than the songs that are sample heavy.

And a lit ya'll are trying to have it both ways here. On one hand ya'll are passing off music like RD as aging better and saying Jay's music aged like milk and clowning saying the Timbaland and Neptunes tracks that aged worse. The same Spotify numbers you're using to argue his music aged like milk are the same ones that have "Big Pimpin" and "Dirt Off Your Shoulders" among his most listened to solo songs.

If you a jay-z super Stan just say it.

Every other legendary group/rapper has a sound.

Jay-Z doesn't.

I'm a jay-z fan big time 2.

Why is this so hard for you 2 understand :russ:
You just don’t wanna admit they were nobodies prior to Jay Z :dead:

Kanye literally said I was on the train with 15 dollars in my pocket and Izzo changed my freaking life :heh:

Regional East Coast classics at best

He's without a doubt one of the best rappers 2 ever do it.

But people start making outlandish statements about his discography just because they really appreciate his raps.

He had incredible business acumen and could rap like no other.

He struck whenever the iron was hot.

Thats it.

How is it wave riding when he used producers who were nobodies :dead: . Which is the whole point. He took 2 nobodies and made an album.

Even if you were gonna claim Supreme Clientele influence, that album flopped in real time in 2000. That wasn’t the “wave” at the time at all:heh:

Ya'll way off for Vol. 2.

Paper Chaser
nikka What nikka Who
Money Ain't A Thang
Hand It Down
Hard Knock Life
It's Alright
Can I Get A...
It's Like That

^^^ none of these sound like anything from IDAHIH or No Way Out.

RD sounds nothing like RTD. RTD is far darker and isn't as mafiosos leaning.

Vol. 2 had three Swizz Beats and grimier street oriented approach compared to the pop Bad Boy approach and Hitmen beats on Vol. 1

But we coulda pointed out he jumped on the Southern and West Coast waves as early as Vol. 2

OK breh jay-z never rode any waves...you got it. he's known for being an originator.

Shoutout lil Wayne for throwing that donut to jay-z.

@Sad Bunny am I wrong :russ:

shoutout 2 young chris 2.

Breh there are FAR more people who subscribe to jay-z being a wave hopper. You're all alone out here. it is what it is.

go run thru his albums and report back.

And I agree on whoever said that Jay has all but abandoned his music career. I haven't even heard any of his songs in any atmosphere asides from a Knicks game...all of his best work aged phenomenally while his duds aged horribly. Don't get me started on his collab albums aside from WTT 🤮
