(Demopolis) My hometown will finally get interstate access.:mjcry:

I see folks complaining about wasted money already.:mjpls: Saying the area is the way it is because of the people. If Von Braun had not chose Huntsville for the rocket program then Huntsville would just be another Florence, Gadsden, or Scottsboro, maybe. They are already widening Hwy 43 to 4 lanes from Tuscaloosa to Mobile so this will just open up the black belt area.
I thought that project was already done, I know it is from Mobile to Thomasville is.

the Tennessee river valley is finally becoming the focal point of Alabama. I need to see how liberal the area is; I know north Albania in general is conservative but Huntsville metro might be different.

huntsville is also unique as kind of being central to Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta, Memphis Chattanooga and Jackson. If we were redesigning states, Alabama could be split into three, with south Alabama going to New Orleans, central Alabama/ and north Alabama merging with Tennessee. Atlanta would be it’s own state too

If it keeps on this track Huntsville will be 250k+ in 10 more years. I'm feeling like the growth rate will be higher because this area is just starting to hit it's growth spurt. It could be closer to 260k-270k and that's not including the whole metro area. If Madison continues to grow like it is and Decatur/Athens as well, then the whole area could add 100k more folks by the next census.

I’m more disappointed in Mobile’s metro area shrinking. We’ve been on the decline since the 80s. Maybe now we will invest more in education and infrastructure as opposed to cruise ships. Montgomery needs an infrastructure upgrade too

Sounds like Mobile is going through the same issue as Birmingham to a lesser extent. I just feel like Mobile will find it's stride though.

I couldn’t find this thread but I wanted to post about the interstate. The top comments were complaining about how Huntsville needs it more than anywhere else and they want a direct line to Atlanta. I might agree with them if I hadn’t had to drive to Mississippi thru Selma and demopolis so many times. fukk that. They need that to run straight to Meridian and connect to I-20.

All Huntsville really needs is a connection to Chattanooga really. You can get to Atlanta in 3 hours 15 minutes going that way now without interstate access all of the way. I-14 will keep people going through the state from having to go near Birmingham and keep Birmingham from being so congested. Besides that Huntsville really only needs another east-west freeway (maybe tollway) connecting I-65 to 231/431 (Memorial Parkway) to take pressure off of I-565. They already have plans for Research Park Boulevard/Martin Luther King Jr Hwy/Bob Wade Lane to loop around North Huntsville.

You know Europeans are exploiting cheap Southern labor because you don't have strong labor laws right? Same shyt is happening in my home state.

No hate to the Huntsville crew but they’re starting to try and throw their weight around all lot more now. And this was before the census put them at the top spot so haha idk.

The way you put it makes sense but you really could’ve stopped at “keep b’ham from being so congested”. Anything to take the pressure of 65 north and 280 is welcomed.

During the summer you REALLY see the impact of people going to the beach. That shyt needs to be at least 6 lanes all the way from mobile to Tennessee. Birmingham catches the most hell on that route.

Better than the jobs that would have been available here. It adds to the jobs at the ports and different support jobs. There ain't really any losses.

Just wait until they replace the I-10 bridge to the beaches. They aren’t really able to expand the I-65 Dolly Parton bridge over the mobile river delta either.
Has I-22 helped their traffic any in Birmingham?

I can’t say, I don’t generally end up that far north. Birmingham is in the middle of talking some major shyt. I was hearing about proposals to change 280 and lift it so they could create frontage roads or build something on top of it now. Nobody’s happy either way.

hope this infrastructure bill gets used correctly.
