Lol

this kinda funny and got me thinking what category are yall?!

i think im probably more of a Sub Watcher (slide 6 )

I must be a super OG cuz I didn't get introduced to anime through Pokemon or DBZ.

They need a tier for the nikkas that were put on by Fist of the North Star, Ninja Scroll. fukking Thundercats and Ronin Warriors. nikkas who used to cop the manga vhs tapes with the not for kids sticker on it, but the store clerk fukked with you and let you buy it.

All these blogs be literally thinking anime started the year 2000 or some shyt. :what:

Real shyt. Hell growing up I watched Yugioh and Pokémon before I grew out of it entering high school, but I didn't view it as anime at the time. It was just a cartoon with a different art design to me. No question Dragon Ball & Pokémon were insanely popular, but you had limited options around the 2000s for anime.

Attack on Titan & the start of streaming services is kind of where anime really started becoming more mainstream outside of Japan. Which is the early 2010's. Honestly, that is when anime honestly took off. The early 2000s were obviously memorable af, but outside of Japan the number of shows and how long it took to get them is something people often forget. Funny how now we have the opposite problem of the 2000's. Now we got too much anime and lots of good shyt gets overlooked since dudes will eat up trash isekai or RomComs.

Oh no the ending :sadcam:

After the intense episode surrounding Jinshi last time, we are back to more chill. More and more, we really get the sense that the Shisui in the palace is the true her. Though the fact her mother would beat her or throw hot water as discipline is just fukking awful. This is more so the episode where Shisui won my trust. She has been a mystery as her introduction, but going through all that is just awful. Can't even imagine how as Loulan she must have felt.

Of course, Maomao can't go a minute without being curious and snooping around. Landing a weapons workshop and with it the weapons that were used to try to assassinate Jinshi is a gold mine. Of course, Shisui's mother came at the worst time possible. Well, things ain't looking good here.

Also, I am wondering if Shisui knows the hairpin from Jinshi is important, but she knows it's better to hide it so she included the other one over it to maybe hide it? It could be me overthinking, or it could be for another reason.

My brief introduction into anime was Inuyasha…..

Because back in 98 I remember it airing on CN late nights…. It was about around this time…. When I was still in HS close to graduating

But my TRUE introduction was in college….. About my soph year (99) when some dudes across the hall from me (who eventually became my apt roommates and lifetime friends) put me on.

One breh was a DIEHARD DBZ fan….

He had like all the tapes and the movies and was always watching and had a mini network where he could get new tapes.

When used to pop up in their room to chill, I started watching with them…. Then CN started airing and I would watch on my own.

Then I was introduced to FOTNStar and Ninja Scroll and was like :obama:

But I think I officially got hooked with the combo of Bleach, Naruto, DGrayMan, Gantz, and Death Note was introduced to me. After that, there was no going back and everything accelerated

Got damn nikka you old as fukk to be a late 90's fan but you cooking.

in these discussions ppl hardly ever mention the street fighter animated movie but that shyt was big when it dropped. I remember its impact is what made a lot of nikkas really start taking anime serious in the mid 90s. shyt was lowkey a bridge to the a lot of the other anime movies at the time. SF was also a lot easier to get your hands on then shyt like FOTNS, Ninja Scroll, Genocyber, etc...

A lot of that stuff came on during Toonami's "midnight run" too. Pretty sure that's how a lot of 90's babies saw Champloo/Fooly Cooly/Outlaw Star for the first time.

And it usually was going off by the time we had to wake up for school so all those Inuyasha songs are burned into my memory, once Pokemon came on around 630-7am I knew I was finna be late going to school :pachaha:

By the time naruto made the rotation toonami was falling off tho

Damn see my cable didn't even carry cartoon network when I was growing up so I had to catch that era of anime outside of that channel
By the time I finally got CN, I was already a grown ass man outta high school and already seen a lot of the shyt they were showing. Only a handful of shyt like Naruto, Bleach, etc.. I didn't catch and they never looked dope enough for me to go back to it.

before cartoon network tho, the SyFy channel used to show anime like every other Saturday back in the early n mid 90s.

Cinemax used to show anime late as fukk too. shyt like Vampire Hunter D , Wicked City or FOTNS would come on at 1am and shyt.

it was a lot harder to eat if you ain't have cartoon network. Outside of a few channels, nikkas had to rely on Viz video catalogs and Suncoast and when you did, you weren't gonna waste it on some kiddie shyt like Pokemon, you gonna go for the ultra violence or cool sci-fi shyt.

i'm a sub watcher. never seen bleach, naruto or one piece and likely never will although I acknowledge their impact and quality.
Interesting

But idk :hubie: the chunin exams + the following war against sand village was peak writing, Kishimoto was leaving scorch marks when he wrote that shyt, y'all might've done yourselves a disservice

Minus the filler episodes Naruto was heatrocks all the way through Shippuden up until the end of Madara :whew:

ain't nothing like seeing nikkas stop a meteor at the last second only to hear the opp say "what you gonna do about the 2nd one? :unimpressed::banderas: "

*Cue 2nd meteor slamming into the one they just stopped*

by the time Naruto starting gaining popularity in the US I was already getting into more adult oriented fare like Berserk, Evangelion, FMA, Satoshi Kon stuff like Perfect Blue & Paranoia Agent, up and coming directers like Masaaki Yuasa, etc.

I went back and watched all of Dragon Ball but never watched Naruto. I'm sure it's great considering how much it is referenced online, almost as much as Dragon Ball/Z/Super.

A Taiwanese man helped stop a knife attack on the Taichung metro because his anime hero, Himmel from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, "would've done the same."

As reported by the China Times and translated by Siliconera, Ruixian Xu was one of 17 civilians who rushed to stop a man who injured three people with a knife on a train in Taichung, Taiwan on May 21, 2024.

Upon accepting an award for his bravery, Xu referred to himself as an otaku — a term usually referring to someone who loves anime, manga, video games, and other elements of nerd culture — before pointing to Frieren as his inspiration.

"If Himmel was there, he would’ve done the same thing," Xu said. He also said he hopes his actions and pride as an otaku will help improve public perception of those who identify as such.

Himmel got anime geeks stopping knife attacks in real life fam.
