TBH it's about perception on how a player impacts a game. 45 pts can feel"empty" if for example the player has 40 over the first 3 quarters. and disappears in the 4th.
Or If he only shoots 35% to get that #.

Yes. People will ignore it if it's a player they like.

I.e. people on here were raving about the huge numbers Giannis Antetokounmpo was putting up this season when he was playing PG yet Cousins gets called an "empty stats" player despite the fact that their teams have the same record
What was the record late In the year when he played pg?

Don't know the exact number but it wasn't a winning record
Only difference I would say is he just moved to the position and has seen the playoffs unlike players like cousins and love who have a long history of big stats and no wins.

I didn't name anyone. Harden plays no defense so as much as he scores he gives up almost as much on the other end.

He is probably the #1 candidate for empty stats.
Was he still the #1 candidate of empty stats when he carried his team to the 2nd seed, led the Rockets to the WCF & finished 2nd in MVP voting? :ohhh:

No such thing. You can devalue stats based on circumstances and context but it doesn't make a players ability to produce in some area worthless.

I see Love's name in here but he was one of the most impactful offensive players in the league back then. Wolves didn't make the playoffs largely due to reasons outside of him. Same with Westbrook last year.

Basically stats that seem impressive, but betray their true impact on the game. ..take big men of the big al, Okafor, brook Lopez variety. ..their offensive output is such that one could just look at the numbers and assume they could be franchise players you could build a successful team around...when in reality we know force feeding them in the post stagnates offenses and their defensive liabilities kill their overall effectiveness on the floor ....players with gaudy steal numbers that gamble too much and comprise team defensive principles. ...players with impressive assist totals that come at the expense of ball movement, players that over rely on getting to ft line and struggle when refs swallow whistles in the playoffs, etc

Most centers' rebounds. A lot of rebounds are ultimately just down to agreeing who grabs the easy uncontested ones. Having 5 more rebounds than some other player doesn't necessarily mean you're that much of a better rebounder. You can easily see this when players are on triple double alert. The rebounds come a lot more easy then all of a sudden.

Curry's high scoring in "limited" minutes. Breh is allowed (and helped) to take a gazillion shots in those minutes.
