They have two, and the less favourable one goes to the Raptors. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I can tell from this: http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

The Nuggets have the right to swap 2016 1sts with the Knicks(Melo trade), which the Knicks will then send along to Toronto(Bargnani trade). I don't see them having a pick in the 2016 first round.

...It still amazes me how they went out of their way to get Bargnani.:bryan:

If they just waited I'm sure he would have been waived, shyt had me like:why:

doesn't Melo have a 23M dollar player option next year? why would he want to be a free agent?

More guaranteed money. Lets say he tears his ACL next year. Does he still get a max deal? Probably. Not for the entire length though I'd imagine.

yeah but why wouldn't he just pick up the option and get 23 mill, then he can decide what to do in 2015 cuz the Knicks have so much cap space then.

it just seems dumb to decide now when he can wait a year in 2015 when hes an unrestricted free agent when the Knicks are in a much better position

Money. Why didn't Melo sign with the Knicks after 2011 instead of forcing a trade? He wanted his max deal before the CBA changed. Melo's always concerned himself about getting his money and I don't blame him.

Or... you leave now, accelerate your contract window, and hope to get another big deal at the end of this next one. The whole game in the NBA is getting as many bit deals as you can before your window closes, in case injury/dropoff happens.

Plus, what about his experience with the Knicks. Hell, what about their last 2 decades would suggest they can build a winning team, period. Let alone a winning team around him? He might stay, try to do the sign and trade thing... but in order to hope for that, you're essentially hoping that THE ONLY thing he cares about is money.

All of this talk of FAs...a gamble and odds are against to bring in a great player. The Knicks only need a PG and a low-post scorer to be contenders; and that's keeping the same bench of Prigioni, Smith, Bargnani, Amare, Timmy Jr. They could've done that this year. The Knicks never worry about financial moves, so they should simply make basketball decisions.

Melo IS a superstar, but he has no team. They have NO playmaker, no inside presence, no 2nd scorer, 1 on-the-ball defender in Shumpert and he's a horrible scorer; the streaky incompetent JR, and as expected, Amare has become Dyess 2.0. They overachieved last season.

I dont think Melos going anywhere he runs that franchise he strikes me as a cat whos content making the most money he can and beign the man and putting up as many shots as he wants and his empty stats,i dont think hes the type who could handle beign a 2nd option just to win a title

Id be shocked if he takes less money and shots to try to win a ring

Ur disrepectful he can win a championship being a first option

I don't know what all this "they should have traded melo" because nobody outside of say...the fukking cavaliers or bucks would have traded for him, because both of their owners are bat shyt crazy...no contender is going to trade key rotation players for half a season of him and no bad team is going to trade draft picks for half a season of him...

Knicks don't have what you need to build around melo...you need a solid interior presence on defense and they don't...you need at least one other person to hit the boards with melo hard and they don't...you need a pass first / catch and shoot point guard and they don't...you need a shooting guard to only pick his spots when Melo isn't hot and they don't...

They just need to suck this year and next, not bring in any big contracts, then have a ton of cap space when Amare, Barg, and Chandelier come off the books...

They need to trade JR cause it is evident he doesn't respect anyone on that team

Maybe then they can sign...the ghost of Derrick Rose :mjlol:
