Trades tend to be more plyable. You if you master a Trade it will be easier for you to go into business for yourself become a general contractor which can make you a lot of money.

So going back to my original statement yes having a trade is ultimately Superior then working at UPS.

My boy drives a garbage truck and only works 6 - 8 hours/day. Before that, he delivered ice and worked as much or as little as he wanted.

My uncle did long-haul work and even then he was only driving about 10 hours/day due to regulations.​

Haven't read al the thread yet, but one theory i have is that home ownership/vehicle ownership is low among Blacks that many just dont even get the chance to work with their hands.

Compound that with the single parent rate in our community.....

None of these are real reasons why blacks aren't as involved in trades as they were....you don't need to own a home, or even have a car to work a skilled trade.

There just wasn't a generation of black men to teach the current young black men to work with their hands...nor a school system to provide them with any attempts at exposure to trades outside of it being an option for those not going to college/high-risk/dropouts/convicts.


What's bad is that schools are willing to falsify shyt for an entire senior class just so that they can say they had 100% of their senior class get accepted to college.

I really feel like once blacks get past symbolic shyt to feel good about and show white people, we can really get to dealing with our own issues.

Societal hypocrisy in the education system. This idea that people in the trades are less than people in higher education which is stupid.

I could go on and on about this. Suffice it to say that our stupid educational system tries to funnel everybody into higher ed (for greed in a lotta of cases) while throwing shade at trades.

A lotta schools have taken trades out of their schools right along with any other authentic learning experiences to place more emphasis on making kids great test takers. Being a good test taker can get u far, but we end up punishing kids who don't give a fukk about taking tests who have other talents, whereas past educational systems had a better balance of academics and practical skills.

So when one of my students writes fukk ya'll on one of the 12 fukking tests he takes per year, and eventually drops out, we are actually failing some of the best minds like his as a system. Because that same student was also the kid who took apart a broke electronic pencil sharpener, fixed it and put it back together again in 6 minutes and could draw and name different parts of an engine from memory.

A lot of brehs don't want those careers and that's just the truth. I've asked this before and most admitted they weren't interested. Cacs and Mexicans are eating though. The good thing about some of these fields is not only is the pay pretty decent, they're in demand and it can possibly lead to starting your own business if you want. You're not going to turn working at Popeye's or Radio Shack into a business, but with some trades you can. Brehs nowadays want to work bytch jobs. Thing is if you work bytch jobs, you get bytch pay. Not saying you have to learn a trade but there's a lot out here better than these dead end jobs. If you don't want to pick up a trade, at least get into Tech or Finance. Brehs are backwards out here, happy with dead end jobs.

I have a friend that is a welder. He is never without a job or money. But I can't say there are a whole lot of black welders. He tries to put some of the young guys on, but it ain't a glamorous job, and not for everyone.

Yeah, brehs aren't interested for the most part. People in here are talking about "the white man" but that's not it in this case. I've talked to enough brehs to know that they just generally aren't interested in it. The few that are, are generally doing good though.

Back after i graduated, i was telling brehs that i knew, either

1- Go to college and pick a really good major, something that is in demand and pays well
2- Pick a trade that pays well, possibly start a business
3- Military

But a lot didn't listen, so they're working at Wal Mart or KFC

I'd hear a lot of dudes say they didn't want to do that stuff but i'm motivated by high (or at least decent) salary. I make good money but i know a lot of brehs would not do what i'm doing because they'd find it boring or maybe too technical, but it's not hard. Most of the dudes in my field are white, asian and latino
