looking at the knicks salary situation, stoudamire, chandler and bargs come off after next season, only shumpert, prigioni, and hardaway jr are signed after next season

so melo can stay and the knicks can reload or he could leave money on the table

With that rationale he can stay and simply cake on his last big contract but never win shyt and barely (or simply not) make the playoffs from hear to year instead of being expected to be in the hunt by default like Miami or Indiana.

LA looks attractive because Mitch is KNOWN for pulling the okey doke on opposing GMs and getting what's necessary for the franchise to stay relevant. But that was while Dr. Buss was alive and the Buss children, like just a year after he passed, have already fukked things up.

Chicago seems cool but (1) you gotta deal with Miami fir the next 3-5 years, Indiana and even young pups like Charlotte that are showing potential. And DRose's knees/legs are a huge question mark that I'd rather not roll the dice on if I'm where Melo is at this point in his career.
