Finance in NYC warps the fukk out of your mind and expectations in a way that very few professions can do to a person in their 20s. I make considerably more now than when I was an analyst in investment banking and "more" is all I can think about

I'm in my 30s making 60, and I live in a modest apartment, 800 a month, utilities included, with a modest car already paid off, living a modest life.

My entire living expenses for a month is usually around 1000 a month.

There are a few options of promotion but tbh I am comfortable where I'm at.

I am stacking money, determined to retire by the age of 45.

The only thing you have in this world is the experience you have with your time.

Once you're dead, what's the point of all those material possessions?

My pops came to the US illegally from Jamaica. Granted he was a huslter, but dude bought his first property in the 70s in NYC at 23. You can chalk it up to a "mentality" but the fact is that it's a "reality" and defining a good man as someone who leaves a phat inheritance to their grandkids is both ignorant and offensive to 90+% of this country.

And it's not something I strive for cuz there's few things I detest more than trust fund babies who have no value for a dollar. fukk I look like slaving then depriving myself of enjoyment in the name of saving, just to have my grandkid/kid blow it on a night in Vegas trying to look cool.

Nah, I strive to provide for my kids as they grow up and have enough so they won't have to take out loans for college (that's a huge leg up, I've seen this personally). The rest is for me to enjoy as I see fit (including supporting myself in retirement). Surely, if I amass wealth that allows me to provide a bit more (i.e. downpayment on their first homes) then I'm not stingy, but as it stands now college is my goal.

More of a Buffet attitude than a Hilton one, and at anyone who thinks I ain't a good man because of it.

i'm pretty sure i never said people should deprive themselves of joy so their kids could be spoiled trust fund brats.

but when it comes down to making an unnecessary purchase or putting money in my daughter's 529 plan i'm pretty sure i'm making the right decision.
