You would pick the show with the weakest African references, but they would wear Kente cloth, kofia hats, medallions etc. on these shows that I referenced. I'm glad they did rep. the culture because outsiders always want to rewrite our history. At least with popular TV shows repping Black culture it is preserved in time as fact. If you are not Black and were not alive back then don't fight history just sit and learn. True students of life always want to learn the facts and not skew them, White supremacists never want the real truth to be told.
If you want to get personal, which this isnt

My dad taught Black Literature at Richmond High in the early 90s. School of 21 languages and 21 gangs. Lemme tell ya something, red-green-black African medallions weren't fukking cool.

Then I'm the one with revisionist history. Why don't you shut the fukk up and go back to whatever suburb you came from where conscious rap was holding down the streets

thats it? a radio push?

wheres the big machine pushes? wheres the phoney accolades from the media & writers? wheres all the phoney awards victories? wheres the big-time placements?

dudes like big sean get bigger pushes than meek millz.

lol @ the other cats you were mentioning.
All they need is a radio push. Not my fault you dont understand the influence of the radio lol.

hate to break the news to you, but the radio doesnt cater to the streets AT ALL.

street rappers arent surviving off radio. most of the popular street rappers arent even on radio.

just say you want to hear more of what YOU like and keep it moving.
I love to break it to you but the radio caters to the lables who get them to promote their street rappers. Those street rappers survive off of the exposure they get from the radio.

Again your failing to understand the power of the radio.

So medallions weren't cool yet almost every East Coast rap video from 89-91 someone is wearing one?

Hip hop has downsized its operations to focus on the cheapest products to produce and that is sampless 3 minute flash beats and cheap rappers..

So-called militant conscious rap is not boring and sells well enough if it sounds good enough..dead prez did numbers as well as world tours off the strength of a very militant but solid album. in fact, Latifah, PE, Tribe etc sold well enough and were huge stars rivaling their more ignant counterparts, but this is before white people really got hold of rap. When it was still somewhat taboo and odd to find an openly white hip hop fan. The changes in hip hop have been so fast, newer fans wont catch it. They struggle to even imagine a time when conscious hip hop and music videos was common place..90s babies.

We can draw parallels with the Jamaican music scene to show how negatively controlled the US hip hop scene is..because the labels and recordings in Jamaica are generally Black owned and produced, half the songs out the island are conscious and the other half street. in the US barely 5% of Black records are conscious.

The problem isnt the public demanding to hear mindless drivel from inane rappers year after year as some here would have you believe, the problem lies with the fact hip hop is not Black owned and controlled.
There is no way your mortal enemy will allow you to release hymms and verses of inspiration to your people when he could make the same cash or a little less pushing young thug etc. Kill two birds with one stone..some of you are too naive..

if you never heard the album, then how do you know what its about?

i never heard it, but i know ive heard more consciousness & black empowerment from a master p or TRU album than i heard from alot of so-called conscious rappers's LPs.

:what:is this a serious question? I "heard" the music and songs everywhere, in cars, over peoples houses, in school

just saying I never sat down and listened to that bullshyt in its entirety

every song i heard was about murder, killing, drive by's, the dope game...

i'm wrong? there are conscious/spiritual tracks on this album? :martin:

I've been listening to nothing but kendrick lately actually most of my playlist... easily the best of this era imo which i know youre not supposed to say once an artist becomes mainstream, theres always some underground rapper that no ones heard of thats the best thing out who will also be trash once hes mainstream vicious cycle:mjlol: little bankroll fresh sprinkled in there also for when i decide to quit my job and start trapping:yeshrug:
