i will say this again, "marriage" is a business contract that benefits mostly women and those who have less wealth than their partners.Theres a reason why smart white woman are incredibly selective when it comes to finding a husband, theyve been playing the game for centuries and have been taught well by their mothers. Theres a reason why women get mad when a man who is aware of this truth demands a prenup. They know a marriage is great for their bottom line and a prenup would ruin this advantage. I think the two ideas can be complementary.
You can have enough independence to not have to depend on a male, while still wanting a husband/boyfriend that makes a livable wage. Wouldn't we all want that for our partners?
I do think this theme of women needing "sponsors" should be stamped out. It's apart of this culture that encourages the sexist and racist oppression of poor and working-class women. I don't want my sisters, daughters, or nieces to feel like they have to find a man to "sponsor" them just to get the things they want in life.
Rather than perpetuate a culture where women are expected to put their welfare into the hand's of some man (which is a great gift to male supremacy), these women should turn their attention to real issues like getting proper social services for working mothers (sufficient paid maternity leave, free child care etc), the gender pay gap, workplace sexism and other serious problems that are affecting working women today.
