Where did the myth that The Blueprint was weak/bad lyrically start?

It’s nas Stan’s that are jealous of a man for another man

Them dudes are hurt people like more Jay z albums than Nas. That’s why they keep propping up IWW because they know Nas has no album people care about besides Ilmatic. Outside of Illmatic Nas don’t have albums more revered than Vol 2, Blueprint, Black Album, American Gangster, & 444

Thems the facts dweebs

Talking about Blueprint weak lyrically when it’s one of the most quoted albums ever lol

Omfg…I’ve actually figured out jay z hate on this site. Its a shell game, they’ve placed themselves in a cant-lose:

If it’s pre Vol 2, mock him for not being popular, not selling

If it’s post Vol 2, then mock him for just being about sales :wtf:

And if it’s actually 98 and Vol 2, say DMX was bigger (just disregard the whole DMX opening for jay on the aptly names HARD KNOCK LIFE tour)

It’s the same as dudes who hate Bron who minimize his entire career to Ray Allen and kyrie saved you, bubble ring, beat the baby thunder :unimpressed: It’s not to be taken seriously

As someone with no side in this “battle” it’s solely Nas Stans who somehow still are grinding an axe after all this time.
Hilarious really.

Is it? Hov said he dumb down his lyrics to double his dollars. The biggest Hovengers in media, Joe Budden and his co-hosts, all say the same thing. I don't hear Nas stans saying that. They have weirder anti-Blueprint arguments lol

in real time, it was considered weaker lyrically

I was 15 at the time, and this maybe wasn't the exact convo at my school, after class, but on like SOHH, it was common opinion.

and I agree. He recorded the bulk of the album in a week or two, didn't write, you can tell which tracks he took longer on, and they are towards the end of the album, his Renegade verse, and the two bonus tracks.

also, in retrospect, some of the looser bars fit the style of production more, the sample heavy, Blaze, Kanye, type of beats, rather than the Rockwilder, and those guys that helmed a majority of Vol. 3, where the crisper lyrics and structured bars, forgave the beats for being a little dull.

but there's a big shift between his verses on Dynasty, which is where they kind of tried the new formula, in 2000 and Blueprint just a year later. Bars were way sharper on Dynasty. He tightened back up again for Blueprint 2, and The Black Album.

Lowkey Jay's bars were harder on the Dynasty album :yeshrug:, it's just the production was more consistent on Blueprint
Dynasty one of his best lyrical efforts. He was rhyming so effortless all over that album and his fukk you type of arrogance was next level.

The production in places was fire, but it definitely got more consistent on Blueprint
