Well of course without the Eminem song there wouldnt be a context. That's why it's called a reference. Noone is saying Em doesn't deserve any credit for the term. But the question is who deserves MORE credit for the term being used the way it's used today. Nas turned a character in a song into a noun used to diss someone. Or insult them. He made the term what it is TODAY. Eminem provided the backdrop. Nas gave it the main stage treatment. Eminem himself didn't use it as a noun.

How is Eminem not winning this

Im a Nas fan as much as the next man

but ya'll buggin if you think Em aint started it.

but this is the Coli so I should have known better:francis:

Because nobody wasn't using it as a slang word until NAS did it on Ether. Simple as that. Eminem merely wrote and performed a storytelling song. Nas was the one that coined it into a slang word.

That billboard article is disrespectful to Nas.

They both deserve credit for the word's definition being added to the dictionary. That definition is already a half truth

:comeon:

And please, explain what a Stan is for real.

Eminem painted the perfect description of character in a multiplatinum selling single that Nas used in his diss a year later.

When Nas said it, nobody had to Google the reference, therefore it's impossible for Nas to be credited with its popularity.

does nas deserve some credit? yes

but Em deserves a little more for inventing and creating the picture for what a stan is

:pee105:Em created Stan so as far as I'm concerned this thread is obvious. Give respect where it's due.

Thecoli's weird bias against em rears its ugly head once again:scust:

I didn't even remember nas calling jay a stan in ether. It's nowhere near the most quoted line. Y'all can't be serious with this nas made stan a thing

You can't be serious saying you don't remember Nas calling Jay a Stan on Ether
