It died because it was a black brand and nikkas are real fickle when it comes to fashion. nikkas find something thats hot, wear it out, then want to distance themselves as far from it as they can. Remember back in the day nikkas were on Nautica and Tommy hard, then one day its like black folks had a meeting and decided to drop them both. They didnt die because they are seen as legit clothing companies for white people too.

If you want longevity in fashion you need to do everything you can to not be seen as a black brand. You need your shyt to sell to everyone because nikkas will leave in a hurry and not look back.

Because nikkas are WAY too caught up in what some hoes and random nikkas think about them. Spending $300 on clothes that they'll only wear a few months max. That shyt is ridiculous. nikkas become fickle b/c they mostly wear clothes to impress people and be the flyest nikkas in the room. Then once a new rapper/celeb brings a new style out, they run to it religiously and forget the old brand.

I mean, True Religion was just THAT brand as recent as 2011... now in 2013, nikkas talking about "Y'all still on True Religion like that? Lame ass nikkas" just like that... not even remembering they were the SAME ones talking about "Most of y'all broke nikkas can't even afford a pair of True Religion jeans" in '11.

It's not about the brand for nikkas, it's the price and popularity attached. Once that popularity is gone, the price no longer matters and it's on to the next one. Silly shyt. It's a cycle.

Why do y'all nikkas keep saying shyt like this? Brands die all the time, it's not a white or black thing. Von Dutch was HUGE in the early 2000's, now they're gone. The same goes for Ed Hardy which was supposed to be the new "it" brand and it's sales has essentially collapsed.

Every time I come on this site I read something by one of y'all nikkas that let me realize you believe in your own inferiority.

No, brands die with ignorant people, sure. But brands like Polo, Levis, Brooks Brothers, etc. have went nowhere. They were bragged about by rappers and they are still around today and fairly common. Designer brands usually have time limits. Casual brands don't.

That's what happened to Ed Hardy. Attached itself to a fad (Jersey Shore) and then got played out when that show/movement got played out. The Ed Hardy store in Lenox in ATL is still there, but they hardly get ANY customers now outside of older folks (30+) who don't care about switching brands every 5 seconds. Same with Affliction.

Ignorant, trendy people are across all races. nikkas just happen to brag about what popular clothes they have on more than most.

Bruh you know damn well you can name a lot more urban brands that became hot and died than you can any other type. nikkas still trying to figure out why they couldnt kill Sean John. I wore a Sean John button up that had no labels on it at all. One dude in the barber shop asked me about it and when i told him the brand he was like "man people still wearing that, thats a nice shirt but i dont know if its still in". Im like :snoop: nikka if you like the shirt then wear it.

Platinum FUBU was HOT shyt back in 2000/01. Remember the whole "unit" of shirt, denim-esque jacket and jeans? Then along came "Platinum," the bootleg version with Fat Albert in a durag. :pachaha: I guess when people saw the bootlegged and original versions were nearly identical and both looked equally ridiculous it fell out of vogue. Plus with increased competition in oversized street wear, fitted and jerseys, and the MUCH cheaper casual wear they just couldn't survive.

Dog, the same can be said for every brand. Same goes for Ralph Lauren, Tommy, Gap, Guess, etc. Brands come and go because some become fads and some have lasting power. It has nothing to do with race. If you're going to say Fubu failed solely because of black people, then ed hardy and Von Dutch and whatever else corny shyt cacs rock failed because of white people.

Brands die for various reasons, but I quoted to what that dummy posted because he's trying to attribute it to being black as if it doesn't happen to "white brands" as well.

Didn't all urban wear die though, the last urban brands that were popular were LRG and akademiks. I feel like all that shyt died around 08 09.

Honestly im glad that shyt died paying 80 90 dollars for enyce akademiks jeans was not hot. I wasted so much money

Levis, polo>>>>>>>>

shyt I bought a button up at h and m for 17.95 last week. shyt felt good

FUBU falling off was a prelude to the :rip: of all urban clothing lines. FUBU got played out when white folk started wearing it like it was dope. Kinda like how they kill the term "bling bling." When Jay blew up with that button ups in 03 and Kanye blew up with the classic clothing lines (Polo, Levis, Gucci) in 04, urban wear was at its twilight of relevance.

With a line that is hiphop based (unfortunately) you have to keep up with the trends of the culture you represent. This hip hop shyt changes within a blink of an eye. One moment we're 8ball jackets, then 5x white tees.....now its skinny jeans. As a business, trying to keep up with that shyt - you may be doomed to fail bc you could loose your identity. I didnt see a concrete identity of who Fubu was and what they stood for. When you mention Levi's, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers - you know what they represent.

When nikkas stepped out of the doorags and throwbacks and into buttonups and hardbottoms - it was a wrap. You adjust to trends, not follow them. Cats will rock a polo and levi's 20 years from now. Their shyt is timeless. Only thing timeless in hiphop is a dope beat and a tight 16.
