Exactly what I was about to say. If these were traditional African names, it would make sense, but the pro black argument looks silly when you're using pseudo French names. Not to mention they don't really go with the English surnames most of us have. That said, I'm not really that bothered about names

its weird to me because every other race’s culture can be displayed through their name. but black people cant have that or its looked down upon as being ghetto.

never heard of mexicans saying they have to name their child Tom so they wont have to worry about getting a job. i know we get profiled for our names in interviews but we have to put a stop to that influencing how we want to exist in this world imo. what are yall thoughts?

when I think of black sounding names I either think of:

the adding a French prefix at the beginning, e.g. LaMichael, DeAndre
(apostrophes optional)

or the Arab in origin name, e.g.
Amir, Jamal, Rashad

or biblical names e.g.
Malachi, Michael, James

I don’t look down on either of these. Even some creative names are cool if there is meaning. Condoleeza is a music term meaning “with sweetness”

This is not an uncommon thing. And ADOS doesn’t even have connections to African traditions, and we have been here just as long as white people, and we have their last names.

Plus, I’m not in favor of limiting ourselves, and keeping ourselves in a box. Some people just like certain names, and that includes non-black names.

It’s a extreme c00n mentality and you see it exhibited throughout this forum constantly. Nothing has meaning until people give it meaning. Why can’t a young group of people like African Americans give our names meanings

African Americans will rule the earth within a century or two so you better get on the right side of history. In the past c00ning was lost to time,but social media has created a forever record and your descendants will look at your shyt like

My pragmatic response is, we don’t need to be doing anything that is going to make our lives more difficult. If that means a Euro name to give our kids a better chance of being called in for a job interview, then that is what we need to do. We do not have the population size to just do whatever we want. Be bold if you want, but that tends to make the job search longer, and I have a friend who had to start using his first and middle initials to get a job. He now makes $120K.

At the very least, use a different name for career purposes unless you are going into business for yourself.

Because you're counted out and discriminated against soon as they read ya name. It's already hard enough to be black why do that to your kids.
