it is correct that greek writing came from phoenicians, and phonecian writing came from egypt
but im comparing it to west africa, which is where the modern european colonization began
by the 1400's most european countries had their own writing systems, while west africa for example had none accept for some african who were muslims
im not sure what is is your disputing, the europeans had more advanced technology than the africans and the native americans, those technologies included guns and steel, and im including literacy as a technology
again you are just exposing the fact that you never read GGS, since the whole premise of the book is that euroepans had more advanced technology becuase of guns and steel, hence the title of the book
the book just tries to explain how the europeans became more advanced technologically, not whether they were

not all africans were muslim and arabic is not indigenous to africa
and as a side note, literacy is also one the reasons why islamic colonialism and imperialism happened and its also one the reason that arabs and muslims were able to conquer africans , literacy gave the islamic hordes a huge advantage over non literate people
and the europeans was the second wave of alien colonizers and conquerors to africa FYI
but overall, if you read world history, IMO you can see that literacy give advantages to societies, literacy is a technology in and of itself, black people lacking literacy going back hundreds of years is one of the reasons why black people are poor, it slowed our development, which in turn allowed us to get conquered by muslims and europeans, although its to late to develop our own languages developing out literacy and and culture around literacy is key to our development wether in the us or haiti or africa[/QUOTE]

Your opinion is based on shallow understanding of history. The "Barbarians" toppled Rome, the Mongols defeated China and sacked Baghdad. Two of the most civilized and educated places in the world at that time.

arabic might be indigenous to northeastern africa, but its certainly not indigenous to west africa and it never came down to the southern parts of africa
this is why the points that diamond made are important that 1) africa has always been sparsely populated compared to asia and europe 2) there has never been a unifying empire
the western islamic empires had nothing to do with east or south africa, only some africans converted to islam, the vast majority didnt, there are vast sections of africa that were never touched by islam or europe until modern times,
and the western islamic empires definetly conquered other people, that is how they became empires, if you want to argue that the expansion of islam was peaceful you will have to make another thread on that and i will happily destroy that argument
