He said that when he went to drive it was to dunk but he felt pain in his knee and wasn't going to make it there so he went for the finger roll and..... well you know the rest. Missed layup, Riles faxes his resignation from the yacht and that's the end of the Knicks chapter :francis:

Even then - even if he makes that shot - that was only the ECSF, they would've had to beat a young Magic team with Shaq and Penny, that was no gimme; then beat the Rockets which I don't think was going to happen under any set of circumstances.

Definitely, they would have been the underdog against the Shaq/Penny led Magic team. I don’t think they would have beaten Orlando.

That’s assuming they even win that game against Indiana. Knicks were down 2 when Ewing missed the finger roll so it would have gone to OT.

Their best chances were 93’ and 94’. They had the 2-0 lead against Chicago in 93’ but couldn’t take advantage. The 94’ finals was a very competitive series, and perhaps they were a block away (Hakeem on Starks) from winning it all. Ewing struggled badly offensively throughout the series and unfortunately had to deal with Hakeem in the midst of one of the best 2 year runs (actually 3, he was great in 92-93) ever.

They had a good team in 97’ with that whole mess against the Heat with the PJ Brown/Charlie Ward fight. But it’s still hard to picture them actually beating the Bulls.

Knicks had some good squads but I don’t think they were as talented as the Bulls so it’s not like they underachieved or anything.

He was insinuating that the teams were evenly matched but Jordan was that much better than the opposition. Nah, the Bulls had a distinct talent advantage. Pippen on his own almost beat the Knicks.. of course Jordan and Pippen would. Their second best player was John Starks :dead:

These teams were evenly matched...
Y'all get caught up with the names but not how the teams are constructed and the way the series played out

Ewing was one of the most dominant players you could imagine in college. Even after his knees failed him, he was a Hall of Fame caliber player. Sometimes I think about how different his career would've been if his knees stayed healthy for even 7 years of his career.

Then his front office failed him.

All that said, Oak and Harp aren't totally wrong. Ewing went soft in big moments. He would be out there looking like a hybrid of a grizzly bear and the predator but fading on jumpers and shooting soft floaters and finger rolls. His kneepads had kneepads. He was sweating gallons and continually gettin dunked on. Yeah, yeah - I know... he was actually playing help defense. Still! What all time giant nikka ever got mashed on so many times? Dude was half a sucker and his teammates knew it deep down.

Derek Harper saying Ewing wasn't a leader. Then juelzes and backtrack that he just "led by example"

They also talk about Chris Childs taking shots at Ewing

Charles Oakley saying Ewing is "high maintenance" and "had 5 chances to stick up for me and never did". And how he "sacrificed his game for Ewing"

shyt crazy :dahell:

Their perception is their truth.

Pippen on his own took the Knicks to 7 :mjlol:

Knick guards shot the ball like trash in that series.

Starks-38%
Davis-35%
Anthony-30%
And D, Harper got suspended 2 gms for fighting Jo Jo English

I find it ironic that Harper called out Ewing's leadership,.Yet, he got suspended 2 games for fighting the Bulls 10th man.

Yeah that team had H20, LJ and Ewing was still doing his thing even though he was older. I think they won the regular season series vs the Bulls that year but I don't really think they were going to beat the Bulls in a best of 7. Would have been an entertaining 6 game series loss.

The best shot was 94... just didn't happen. It is what it is

If Ewing was able to average 20 a game in the 1994 Finals, the Knicks win that series.
