Why did Jalen Brunson slip to the 2nd round?

I get what yall saying about scouts focusing on potential and all that (I basically asked the same thing in my original post). How come Jevon Carter was taken before him? He’s shorter, older and he wasn’t no damn college player of the year.
Jevon Carter was a 2 time defensive player of the year and second-team All-American. He also shot close to 40% from 3 his final two years so teams valued that coming off the bench

NBA scouting puts WAY to much on potential and way to little on results...
You have dudes who came off the bench and didn’t even average 10ppg in college going in the lottery (*cough* Patrick Williams *cough*)

I remember when they were drafting these overseas Euro players who averaged like 4ppg.

Kwahi got a lot of players overdrafted because teams were chasing his archetype and hoping to draft the next Kwahi.

Not …really

The exception doesn’t make the rule. For every Jalen Brunson, there are FAR more Frank masons, Frank kaminsky, Luka Garza, Doug McDermott, Jimmer Fredette, etc

Look at his body breh.

Once upon a time I had a chat with an NBA scout (former WNBA player and exec) and she said the first thing they look for is an NBA body and the second thing is an NBA skill. It wasn’t clear that Brunson had either coming out of college.

Curry is considered small though? I feel like anything under 6'4 is small in the NBA imo.

I guess it could be semantics. I wouldn’t argue too hard either way if someone wanted to say Curry was a “small” guard who led his team to Championships. Its just that people give Isaiah and to an extent Iverson (I know he never won the big one but that 01 run to the Finals and how much heart he showed going against the Lakers gives him a lifetime pass with some) more credit since they CLEARLY were on the smaller side.

Even in this most recent draft, filipowski, mogbo, ighodaro, larsson, shead, quinten post all looked decent this year
They ain’t watching the games lord.

I think the talent gap in basketball has shrunken a lot since back in the days. It’s quality 2nd rounders and non drafted players all around now and first round misses
