Why do urban clothing lines always die?

One style clothing lines are not the same as people who drive design and change design every year.

You can’t just have one idea in fashion per the definition of the word. That’s the difference between the majors and the minors.

There's a lesson here about the long term credibility and longevity of a culture based entirely on moving from one trend to another while denigrating and/or dismissing everything that came before.

Tyler's Hot 97 interview was interesting. He collects LV luggage and said the pieces from 60-70 years ago are still in perfect condition due to the craftsmanship, and remain popular pieces. Meanwhile hip hop culture's approach would be to create a half assed, knock off brand with shoddy material, sell it at premium prices, and then guilt black people for not supporting black businesses. That mentality needs to die or else we won't have shyt from this "culture" long term...
But I don’t think anyone would deny that these brands are just cash grabs

I don’t think Nelly was trying to do anything other than cash out on his fame when he made Vokal

they were too era specific, pricing was not reasonable and were heavily bootlegged. Like 8 out of 10 people had the fake urban gear not the real version.

Ralph Calvin vision is consistent over time. They go through hot and cool phases they don't fully go away.

Urban culture is dead that's why

People still wear street wear Pelle Pelle, Mauri, Al Wissam, all this shyt still exist

FUBU was never a hot urban brand, they had a popular start, and sold the company, and all the clothes got cheap and were TJ max status

Jay-Z sold rocawear because he was breaking up the roc and that was the end of that it became TJ max status, because that was profitable for the next guy coming in buying who over paid for the brand and has to use the brand to make money while making cheap clothe

The rapper clothings were never real urban street wear

like I said all the staples are still there, it's just this new generation has a disconnect and wanna dress like hipster cacs because they followed lil wayne, and shyt like that, a nikka who could never dress in the first place

and kanye made everyone dikk ride the euro brands, because that's what he liked, and nobody knows how to be themselves or be original anymore

The European and Japanese brands are simply better than the urban crap that was made with no staying power. Look in your closet now and if you have some Ecko, Akademiks or Sean John, can you wear it today? Like Ralph Lauren, I can wear pieces from 10+ years ago and it would still be fresh because it wasn't dated by the time it was made. There was zero foresight with these brands. I'll go a bit further and say it was a money laundering scheme for many.

This is my original point.

but people still wear streetwear. Palace, Bape. ALD, supreme, etc are still huge

it’s just that designers like Gucci and Fendi started making streetwear and it splintered the markets

Because Gucci, Louis, Versace etc. is more valued by everyone
This is basically it. These brands don’t depend on the Black community, they can pop in the urban market, fall out of style for a couple of years then come back like they never left. Because they have other existing markets that still buy their stuff. Urban clothing companies don’t have that luxury. If they fall out of style for a couple years they dissolve.

Like someone else said they follow the latest fashion trends and when that trends goes away CitiTrends is generally selling it for $20-$30 years later.

Those older more well known brands like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Dockers, Levi’s, etc found a lane and stayed consistent regardless of the trend.
