Why do you all think black women hate the character Lawerence on the show Insecure so much?

My wife dislikes Issa.

I am neutral with all, I dont like that Issa is always fukking someone new tho
This! Issa is annoying, I prefer Kelli and Molly story lines over hers. I watch but I hate the main character lol. She's lame, her job sucks, her apartment sucks, she's always looking stupid. :camby:
This is my experience as well. Every woman knows Issa fukked up and most readily admit that. That doesn’t fit the narrative OP is trying to create though.

This is pretty much what most black women tell me in real life as well.

I'm telling you OP, I dont think its as one-sided as you think.:yeshrug:

I don’t know why the hating. They said the topic this year is toxic male masculinity. They’re setting Lawrence up for a big fall. He’ll try and get back with her. But he’ll lord his job/money over her and eventually his bad attitude will blow up in his face.
Yup :francis:

What bad traits? And most black men can relate to Lawrence because we know how heartless bishes be when your money ain't right.

Reliability usually means someone is flawed. Its not a right or wrong thing. I honestly think he and Molly are the best written, most fleshed out characters in the show. But nikkas took the "Lawrence Hive" shyt really far. Highlighting having a lack of ambition, ambivalence etc. The character was great and he matured as the show progressed....the people that latched onto him were using him as a dog-whistle to either clown women or justify their station in life.

:manny: That's just my observation.

I disagree. I think whether you made it or not you can relate to what I call the "Back then" syndrome. That Mike Jones song resonated with both rich and poor nikkas because they can recall how women treated them before the glow up.

Why do they hate him? Easy

1. He was unmotivated, mediocre and bummish when he was with Issa
2. He glowed up and got his shyt together after she broke up with him.
3. He started fukkin non-black women hotter than Issa

Its basically a lot of projection on their part. :yeshrug:

he wasn't unmotivated or mediocre. he spent most of their relationship working on his company/app so you need some drive and knowledge for that. the problem was he spent most of their relationship working on a business and it sounded like issa was paying most of their bills. plus everyone knew his business was trash but he was adamant about it being successful until the executives trashed it.

black women i talk to only hate lawrence because of what he did to tasha, which was really fukked up. they also think issa is a bird and is wrong for cheating on lawrence. gotta stop taking what birds on twitter are saying and using it to generalize.

Because he represents a prevalent archetype, a college educated (Georgetown at that) Black man who stagnated after graduation but who moved up and out. Furthermore the fact that he had a career whereas Issa just had a job, grinds the gears of many college educated Black woman who are in a similar position as Issa: Working class, 40-60k per yr with a breaking of that ceiling being difficult, living in an expensive metro, and not hitting social benchmarks prior to 30-35.

In their minds he is supposed to stick around for the mediocrity no matter how trifling Issa is, despite the fact that he ALWAYS even when on the couch had a financial ceiling higher than Issa's. Financially, a Georgetown engineer even with peaks and valleys is generally going to be better off long term than a social worker, especially in a place like California.

You mean how heartless women can be when you have no ambition and lay around feeling sorry for yourself all of the time? :usure:
Nah, I said what I meant. Nice try tho. bytches don't get turned on by ambition, they get turned on by success. If ambition equated p*ssy then every wanna be rapper would have a dime.
