Why does CP3 continue to get a pass, but Melo gets fried on the regular?

I think Melo improved on all three points I mentioned in my post during the last season (and the press acknowledged it). But his rep developed over the last several years whe he was a defensive liability, did shoot too much and stop up the offense, etc

Melo may shoot league average, but he he does shoot a lower percentage than other superstar wings (Lebron, Durant, etc). And at times (especially during the Knicks last playoff series), he gets back into bad habits. His shooting percentage fell 40 basis points in the playoffs this year compared to the regular season. That's to be expected a bit as he is playing better teams but he shot near 40% in the playoffs, which is low

Again his defense improved this year, but compared to other superstars both today and historically. He can't be Lebron on D but some extra effort would help.

Probably because CP3 is a PG.

Point guards are not relied upon to carry the team, especially pass first guards. They need players around them to compete at a higher level. Cp3 is a pass first guard who would rather pass than shoot. He can close out games because he's extremely clutch, but he doesn't have the extreme pressure other stars have. Melo on the other hand, is seen as the go to guy to score and carry his squad because of his position.For all the points he scores, he can't get his team to win when it counts that's probably why. Ain't nobody on Deron's head for not winning a championship. But people will be on Durant in a few years. When your asked to score, your asked to carry your squad to.

Yeah, the same reason why you don't really hear too much criticism on Nash for never getting to the finals. Rose a score first PG which is why you'll hear him get criticized if he can't carry the Bulls

It's where he plays. Trust me, if he still played in Denver you wouldn't hear any of this, cause nobody cares about places like that unless they use them as chic picks to come off different from everybody else. Look at Golden State or Memphis. The Clippers have always been an after thought or butt of jokes and had the Lakers playing in the same building so, despite being in LA, they fit the same mold.

Anyway it all comes back at perception, for some reason CP3 is seen as a "winner" (while he's never made it to the conference finals) a "leader" (because he's always yapping on the court) who "doesn't back down" (and stays bytching about calls and flopping).

Melo was already getting criticism when he was still in Denver tho.

He was getting messageboard criticism, and a little bit of it at that. Chris Paul gets messageboard criticism, and a little bit of it at that. In the media the only criticism he was getting was for a brief moment over the stop snitching thing and that was light. It wasn't until he made it known he wouldn't be coming back to Denver and rumors were he only wanted to come to NY(how dare he) that the media started getting on him for real.

Ironically Melo was in the same boat 3 years ago. He was Mr. Clutch with so much heart with 1 trip out of the first round and some less than par playoff performances to his name. If Bron hadn't won a ring he'd still be getting a pass now. Honestly if he stays in Denver and goes anywhere other the NYK, LAL, BOS he'd probably still be getting a pass now. I don't know why people keep harping on CP3 when you got D-Will aka his peer and a guy that was considered as good or even better than him by many doing what he's done (or actually hasnt' done) since he went to the Nets. Nash never took blame for anything that happened in PHX or in LA this year. Maybe it's a PG thing.

Because Chris Paul is arguably the greatest PG in NBA history. No PG in the game today is matching him in PER, AST%, STL%, TS%, TOV%, OTRG%, DTRG%, WS/48. Since the ABA-NBA merger, Paul has the highest PER, ORTG, and WS/48, 2nd in AST%, 4th in TS%, and 3rd in DRTG. Magic only has a higher TS%, and Isiah Thomas trails him in every category. Stocton ties him in 2 categories, beats him in 3, yet Stockton's TOV% is 56% higher.

What all has Melo done? Been a cheap man's version of Dominique Wilkins?
