Melo shoots near league average actually, which is somewhat impressive-and kind of disheartening as NY fan-considering how many 3's he shoots ( 6 a game at 38%, a % that is higher than the league average) and the number of contested shots he takes ( since we don't run any real offensive sets out there).
Our defensive rating wasn't too different with or without Melo in the line-up, which shows he's at least adequate on the defensive end, which is an improvement from last year. Not everybody can be a two way player, but the least you can ask is that your star player not hurt you on the defensive end and he did that this year. He does have his weaknesses still; his help defense isn't great because he just doesn't have great lateral quickness and he still struggles a bit to fight through screens, but he has his strengths too. he's actually a pretty good post defender relative to other front court players, but since it isn't much of a pound it in the post league anymore, we don't get to see it that much.
he's in decent shape relative to his counterparts, not great shape, but not poor either; Why does it have to be one extreme or the other? he may not be cut up or swole as fukk, but neither is Chris Paul, who I'd say is in similar shape. It's not fair to say anybody who plays at 36+ a game at a pretty high level throughout, is in poor shape or is lazy.
didn't want to derail, but your points were a bit off, even if they do reflect what some people like to believe
