Here's why Will isn't considered a GOAT:
1- Will smith didn't raise the bar in the same way his peers did. Most of his stuff are of the radio-friendly type, or a rehash of what other legends have already done (like those slick rick/rakim examples in the video). That Ice Cube comparison was stupid. He has done way more for the culture than smith ever did, being the brains behind Straight Outta Compton, and where the social commentary in Death Certificate is still very relevant 25 years later.
2- Being from Philly kinda worked against him. It was easier to get recognized and respected if he was riding on the east/west coast coattails at the time. Similar to american politics, it is easier to into public office if you are a dem/repub as opposed to an independent or whatever
3- His body of work....is relatively poor. 1 classic album (which sounds very outdated now), 1 good album, and a whole buncha garbage. You're better off listening to a compilation of his greatest hits than an actual album
Nonetheless, I DO think he should be considered among the greats, due to how crazy he sold, and the many artists that came after who he influenced.
Murs' "breakdown" in this video is disingenuous, and frankly lazy. Kind of insulting to the viewer actually. Just like how former athletes make for poor analysts, Murs further reinforces that stereotype with musicians. Maybe he should stick to making music instead. Oh wait, he hasn't dropped a record worth a damn since 2009. Nevermind! fukk outta here nikka
