This. I also think people are becoming more isolated. Communities, which often give people a sense of purpose, are fraying. Social media is in part leading to the rise of isolation.

Also, I think people are just too overstimulated and spiritually hollow. You need time to rest, relax and just think with a clear mind.

You ever seen that experiment where they put rats in a cage with some yayo? The rats would keep on pressing the marching powder button even if that meant ignoring food, a female rat and even if they got an electric shock before the powder dropped. There was another experiment called Rat Utopia which was also very interesting:

Social media/the net in general is very dehumanizing and is one of the worst inventions ever because it was given to a messed up society to screw them up even further because we don't have the collective intelligence to use it correctly. Its a tool, much like an axe which can save or destroy lives depending upon the wielders intent and awareness.

This is why I keep dropping threads like:

To get y'all to think because, generally, more people on here are outside of the mainstream reality box and so more receptive to thinking for themselves and the thoughts I share.

We're living in champagne times. Lots of sparkle and fizz on the surface with glamorous associations and glitz but nothing of any substance, depth or nutritive value. What should be a once in a while perk has became peoples defining drive and then they wonder why they aren't feeling as they think they should.

The net isolates under the guise of connecting and facilitates exchanges, not conversations. Subtle but important differences because right now we are all alone, together, looking at false images we believe to be reality.

Ain't that some ish?

Social media and the overconsumption of "reality" tv is playing a huge part. You have men and women who live paycheck to paycheck becoming enamoured with 'Love & Hip Hop' & 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians.' People who have to worry about budgeting in order to ensure food is on the table for them and their seed are consuming these shows where the chief issue is some multimillionaire throwing a fit because they got a matte black Ferrari instead of a red Lamborghini.

They log on social media and see classmates "supposedly" happily married and vacationing with a Prosche and three kids in tow. They see them closing successfully on homes while they're still trying to find their footing. To cope, they live vicariously through these people, failing to realize that a lot of these same folks are unhappy and are simply better equipped to fake the funk.

Depression has always been an issue with human beings by nature of the complexity of the mind and the trials and tribulations of coping with life in general, but the constant influx of media has led to many people feeling inadequate and attempting to one up one another. Everyone wants to be a celebrity and a crowd pleaser. No one is really comfortable anymore just seeking their own satisfaction and being Joe or Jane. Most importantly, they are completely oblivious to the reality that a lot of the media they consume is idealized smoke and mirrors.

This too real for the people :wow:

General collapse of American society for the under class. I say "under class" because in the past so much conversation was about the middle class...but today most people are not close to being middle class. What we have right now are millions of people who are stuck in low wage jobs, who are barely getting by between rent and car notes and student loans. The largest solace many have is through consumerism that keeps them poor. Buying TVs, phones, video games...electronics. Social media, and the ability to be someone else online. People are living electronic, vicarious lives.

In the past, struggles like this led to a religious revivals as people with no tangible solutions sought intangible comfort. Today that's been replaced by a variety of mentally brain dead self help mantras and "motivation" via witnessing rich people flex on social media. Add in some end of the world anxiety (global warming obsession) and it's not hard to see why people are depressed.

I feel bad for people who have placed all their hopes in...Bernie Sanders and other dudes who have transcended politics to an almost religious plane. I know people who literally pray that he can win and magically solve every problem they have. On some level it's pathetic but still, I feel terrible for these people and their mental state.

A lot of the answers in here are based on social media and attention.

There are some that don't want the attention and stay off of social media that can't get out of their depression.

Depression is a rising sun, you may not feel the heat of it, but it is always lurking to touch you. I've been at the top and the bottom.

But I've been depressed since my granny died when I was 7. shyt took a whole step into a sound of darkness I don't care to sing.

It's that whole ADHD craze people label themselves when they mean they are particular. I wouldn't wish any ailment on anyone.

Because people thrive off of negativity...negativity on tv, around your family and friends and even on this board, well specifically the locker room...

This world has just become a big melting pot of complaints and fewer people that want to listen and solve things.

Me..I've seen the worse of the worse so I just appreciate living and try to make myself a better person in Hope's I could help others around me.

It may seem weird to some but once a month I just cry...it puts things back in perspective for me

People have too much and I mean WAY too much access to information to where they don't know how to maintain and handle it. Its a struggle for adults so I cant imagine how it is for children.

I remember as a kid going to school, we didn't have any access to TV, We didn't have no phones, We only got our news through whats happening with our circle because one person within the camp was always considered the brainaic or the woke one.. We didn't know what was happening on the news until we got home from school and decided if we wanted to watch the news.

Today the average person are on their phone or on Social media 20 hours out of the 24 hour day period and usually that shyt is bombarded with negativity, narcissism, bad news and fukkery.

Social media is great when people have common sense to use it.. I do radio interviews so it works great in my favor but you have many whom lack balance and that leads to misery. Especially since they see their peers "living their best life" every other week while their slaving away at Churches Chicken
