Why does it seem like baseball is making a concerted effort to push the idea that WBC > WS?

First of all we literally just had a top 5 WS ever which was MUCH better than any WBC so far. Everyone raves about this WBC but what games were actually great? people really just getting hype cause the players showboated on every play and the crowd was on some soccer hooligan shyt? I dont even mind guys showboating at all im not typically a purist but that alone is now what makes the game great.

Its bad enough that in most years this thing is an injury fest, luckily it wasnt this year yet but who knows guys might show something down the line but now its like they have to ask everyone if its more important that the WS pushing this narrative down our throats, its brings out casuals who never liked baseball but now like it cause of showboating/soccer style hooliganism crowds.

it feels to me that they now only give a fukk about this glorified spring training tournament to the detriment of MLB, theyre willing to risk stars getting hurt and shytting on the WS or MLB championship for you semantics nerds, just to push this stupid tournament

Because playing for your country>>>>playing for some team that can cut or trade you at any time.
Also it’s not about playing for the team it’s about your own legacy in the top baseball league. Do people consider Jordan the GOAT cause of the 92 dream team or cause of 6 NBA finals ? Why are there players who never got an NBA ring but got multiple Olympic wins and we don’t really count that as them being a possible GOAT? Barkley and Malone don’t got rings but they got Olympic titles and people don’t act like they’re champions based on Olympics

More people outside the US than inside it. Everyone wants the global market in the age of streaming
Ok but think about this , all the countries that made the knock out round baseball is ALREADY huge in those countries, DR, PR, Venezuela , Japan South Korea etc it’s already super popular there, Italy was like the only one and the team was all Americans anyway

The competition USA baseball has to defeat in the WBC - and what any NBA team has to deal with in the postseason - is considerably tougher than what USA basketball has to deal with, even now.

My Pops Forever RIP
1. It's not baseball. It's some baseball players. Keep in mind, some of these guys were 6 years old when the first WBC happened, so it's been part of their lives to where they know it's important.

2. What's the difference between some baseball players valuing this and some NBA players valuing Eurobasket more or FIBA World Cup more or Messi valuing the world cup more than his club titles? It's an opinion than you don't have to share, but fans getting bent outta shape about it as if a player has to choose is hilarious.

Very false. You can count the amount of significant injuries from the WBC on one hand (ironically enough, the hitters have been affected more, which is not why people freak out over injuries. Normally we worry about someone blowing out an elbow. The only significant injury came from Edwin Diaz after jumping up and down in celebration).

lastly, there is nothing noble about getting hurt in spring training. Lemme say that again. There is NOTHING noble about getting hurt for your team in spring. If J-Rod thinks a WBC title is more valuable, great. That doesn't mean he's not trying to win a World Series. It's amazing how Americans cannot handle when someone doesn't share the fervor of achieving a goal as a fan, who by default is more consumed with this stuff than the athletes.

Ive only seen a few current players speak about how playing for country seem bigger than the WS

I sure its more that feel the world series bigger. Only really seen Jeter comment on that

MLB has broadcast rights deals coming up in 2028 and maybe this tournament will be part of it.

So coming off this year’s giant success, you upsell it going into negotiations as a global event for a company like Netflix to buy out exclusively going forward.

:manny: That’s my guess
