fukk it I’ll say it…. I’m tired of the feminine/lgbt energy of ‘black Twitter’. They wanna be mean girls and have a lil clique off to the side and constantly police OTHER people: don’t fry chicken that’s ours, don’t do music like that we started it, ok show us love, ok don’t show us love leave us alone, ok you invited to the cookout , wait no actually leave black spaces alone. All that childish shyt…:beli:

But when them white folk handing out they lil awards now you wanna play ball. On some ‘how dare they not hand us the award’. They did the same when Beyonce didn’t win. Like, ok?!?! What kinda spoiled brat shyt is this. As with many things you give black feminists and lgbt an inch and they want a mile. Ever since ‘Oscar’s so white’ they wanna be handed every award.

Outside of what’s love got to do with it what award was Angela Bassett supposed win? :wtf:
I couldn’t put it any better. People forget there are plenty of CAC actors that have been snubbed. It took Leo years and years of snubs before he got a legacy award for one of his worst films. Johnny Depp has never won. Glenn Close, Ed Norton, Tom Cruise.

I can’t stand black twitter. The level of entitlement is staggering and hypocritical.

“Whites need to stay out of our business!”
“Why do they snub us at their award ceremonies?”

They cried when Beyonce lost to James Corden for an Emmy. SO DID OTHER CACS! She has no divine right to win an Emmy, Grammy or Oscar. Neither does Angela Basset.

Learn how to be graceful in defeat. So embarrassing seeing her act like a spoilt child but she’s just the embodiment of these clowns.

They’ll hash tag “Oscars/Grammys So White” and will be at the table begging for those same crumbs next year.

She is not worried about the Oscars. In 2019 she was making nearly half a million an episode for that 911 show. 3 damn years ago. She clearly has star power and gets paid for her time put in(something Oscars are usually a cheat code for) so I can't see her giving a damn.

I still remember when she had that bit part in Kindergarten Cop on the plane! :gladbron:

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!

The Oscar statuette is a hunk of metal, you diseased c*nt. That's all it is and all it ever will be. If you need an award to make your work to feel validated, then you should stop and reflect on why you are doing it in the first place. Life isn't fair. I'm not losing sleep over it, but I'm glad that you will. Congratulations to Jamie Lee Curtis. :salute:

its very simple, the Oscars are never attaching any type of respect like that to a Marvel movies name.

Jamie Lee Curtis might been the worst option in that category. def some lifetime achievement type voting on that one.
Ok. JLC looses. Stephanie Hsu gets it. Easy.

Screaming crying and snot bubbles ain’t acting 😂

Because whether we want to acknowledge it or not, winning an Oscar is a HUGE boon for an actor’s career financially and professionally. Even Oscar winners who end up having the “worst” careers can get top billing in tv shows, limited series, stage plays, etc. Angela Bassett winning an Oscar pretty much guarantees her top billing in ANY film project ($$$), the ability to gain producing credit ($$$) get passion projects off the ground ($$$)

Now in Angela Basset’s case, she’s so well respected she’ll ALWAYS have a job in Hollywood. But an Oscar would get her more clout to do projects SHE wants instead of auditioning or just taking whatever is offered
Exactly. People in here being obtuse as always. Black actors aren’t getting top billing because they are NAACP nominees or NAACP award winners. Actors get a certain amount of acclaim and can possibly demand more money if they win an Oscar. It’s one of the highest honors in their class of peers.

How do you make sense of this:

And this:

At the same time?

You're admitting black people have their own award shows, are they of lesser value in the film industry?
Do we want to acknowledge white validation at the expense of dealing with racism is greater than independent black achievement or is it about getting paid in a system of white supremacy?

Black people can still get paid while maintaining a credible, financially lucrative, critically laudable career in a system of white supremacy while having their own independent, prestigious award show to rival the Oscars. We already have our own award shows and people in the film industry who can do what they do.

After the PhD Coli Black History professors break this down day in and day out why does the same conversation continue?

This thread is not about Angela Bassett, that's all.

Exactly

The "Winning an Oscar opens more opportunities" explanation is a smoke screen to the fact that nikkas just mad that white people won't accept them. The rhetoric is not even concrete. For the most part actors careers tank after winning an Oscar ESPECIALLY if they win it young. But either way yes Angela Bassett is just the latest avatar to represent the yearly :to:how come y'all don't love us?" bytching black folks do after the Grammys and Oscars

Some of y'all's idea of pro blackness is begging white people to be nice to you and there's no amount of juelzing or sassy retorts that can hide it

Both my posts represent the TRUTH of the matter and yours represents little more than a fantasy. Naive at best and woefully uninformed at worst

I don't even know the appeal of an Oscar.

It's supposed to open up more roles, but if you already getting roles like Angela Bassett has, then does it really matter?

Prestige and acknowledgement? She already has both and is held in possibly the highest-regards by her peers of all races and genders.

All that's left is the award itself and it's literally a piece of metal.

There are some incredible actors who have never won an award, many of which take on "Oscar-type" of movies and roles.

I was surprised to find out this was Jamie Lee Curtis's first-ever nomination and I've heard her name for like 30 years now. It wasn't even the big lead actress category either. I'll say this: at least she had a great speech.

It's hilarious at this point that people are even remotely disappointed in the Oscars/Grammys/FILL IN ANY AWARD SHOW

1) It's an award show - there is NO objectivity. It's impossible. Call it what it is, a popularity contest.
2) It's a WHITE award show - does anything more need to be said?

Whether it's the NBA MVP or Grammy's its pointless to put any energy towards something that can not be objectively measured.

But it's not even the complete truth. Oscar wins have ruined as many careers as they've elevated because that "Y'all need to pay me more than this, I deserve top billing I'm an Oscar winner" shyt limits your opportunities. You MIGHT get some roles on the strength but in the same token just because the Academy thinks you deserve an Oscar doesn't mean studios believe you do or that they should pay you for it. Then they'll just find someone cheaper:mjlol:

Adrian Brody won an Oscar 20 years ago and been doing straight to dvd movies ever since. What did Monique's Oscar do for her? What about Halle Berry? Jr Three 6 Mafia has a fukkin Oscar:mjlol: what effect did that have on Bands A Make Her Dance???:mjlol:

Cuba Gooding Jr won an Oscar and his career has been a mountain of trash ever since:mjlol: how much you think that Academy Award mattered when he did Boat Trip? :mjlol:
