You make a good point they were extremely snobbish.

Neo- soul was the side step away from the traditional church like singing in R&B and they did pretty damn good.. The Music Soul child and Jill Scott types got some explaining to do.. Maybe the millennials dissed them. IDK.. But the ball was definitely dropped there.

As an older millennial I'll go ahead and agree. It pretty much died on our watch. But I will say we weren't given the musical movements or talent level of previous generations. Compare that first wave of stars to the ones of the eras before. We had some good artists but nobody who was hands down great or incredible. On the male side we had Dream, Chris Brown, Ne-yo, Omarion, Miguel, Mario and Trey Songz. None of those guys measure to the superstars that came before them.
Dream, Neyo - both gen x...literally all the last great male r&b artists & writers are gen x lol

R&B has been dead for over 15 years. I blame the industry, more than the people. All they have to do is sign real artists, hire real R&B producers and market the music to the masses.

There’s no reason for what passes as a R&B should sound goofy (Like Lizzo) or have the same dumb cadence Over a generic trap beat that everyone uses.
The industry is a business. They’re only supplying what the market demands. The industry can’t make people want R&B

Nah. We just weren't kissing their asses like they expected. They wanted it to be one way.

They became stars in the millennial era though we were their original fanbase as artists. They were behind the scenes before we became of age.
ok, i disagree, dream cant sing but his pen is undeniable and neyo was a good singer and writer, to me, they are the last of a a dying breed. dream knew when to make a love song vs a fukk song...that became a lost art with millennials. i also think miguel had the potential to be really great, he just went left then flamed out

I think Miguel had some issues with the label. What part do you disagree with?

your original post about them said they didn't have the talent of previous eras, that's where i disagree and think them, tank, usher, johnta and b Michael cox (as writers) and the rest of their peers born ~75-79 still had that A-tier level of talent, it fell off a cliff with 80's babies :francis:

this a shaky ass list..bolded are proof of millennials fukking up r&b IMO, from lack of vocals to subject matter, to song composition, to leaning way too heavily on production...nah. doesn't mean i havent enjoyed songs from them, but this is weak. are you really enjoying dudes like drake and tory lanez as r&b? i think acts like that being welcome in r&b helped kill it
